This is it friends… it's our Super Bowl, our World Series… Christmas is the most important day of the year for packaging fanatics like myself. We only have a few days left to gather supplies and make our plans to create our gift wrap masterpieces. I've gone a little manic and thought I would share a few DIY gift wrapping ideas like how to make a wax paper bow…
The other day I headed to Wal-Mart to restock my arsenal of Elmer's products to help accomplish the gift wrapping challenge. You can follow my Google+ shopping trip here to get the entire play-by-play of the trip. Here are a few of the items that I needed to accomplish the task…
I'm in love with the Elmer's Glue Spots, they are so convenient and easy to use. A new favorite is the CraftBond Quick Dry Glue Pen… this is not your old school room Elmer's. I was was really impressed with it's performance. I also added the Elmer's Double Stick Tape, X-ACTO Precision Tip Scissors & Elmer's Foam Mounting Tape. With my arsenal re-stocked and ready to go, it's time to start working on this years gift wrapping…
I tend to stick with basic, neutral wrapping paper choosing to dress up the package with fun design elements. I wrapped my boxes with a basic brown paper using the Elmer's double stick tape…
I find that making sure that your lines are crisp and clean makes for an even better presentation. The fact that you can use the double sided tape means that you won't even see the tape! Once the box is wrapped now the fun begins. With this box I wrapped a simple piece of fabric around the box and secured it with the double sided tape, then wrapped it with some cotton yarn. I made some pom-poms with the cotton yard and glued it to a stick with the Elmer's Quick Dry Glue Pen…
It's a simple yet stunning presentation. I also added a basic key tag that you can find at any office supply store for the gift tag.
My next gift, I used a non-traditional wax paper bow…
Here's how to make one…
I take four sheets of wax paper cut roughly into 12×12 squares. Layer on top of each other and then fold back and forth like a fan and then tie in the center with a bit of string our twine…
Decide what size you want the bow to be and then trim the ends accordingly. For this box I rounded the tips with the X-ACTO Precision Tip scissors to create a flower like appearance…
Then, gently start to pull apart the different layers of the flower…
Fluff it up to your liking and then use some Elmer's Glue Spots to affix it to your package…

Let's just say I am loving this time of year. It's so fun to shop for your friends and loved ones and then bring home those trinkets and wrap them up with your love. Elmer's and Wal-Mart make that so easy to do just that!!

Loved this waxed paper bow. And so easy, except for satisfying yourself as to petal placement. What I did with mine was to lightly spray with an opaline glitter glue on each side…the operative word is “lightly”. I sprayed each side of the paper before making, but afterword decided a light spray after making would work just as well. Thanks much for a great idea…sean.
