Friday Flair Link Party /// Black Velvet Edition

Eeeeek, it’s time for FRIDAY FLAIR!!! I can’t tell you how much I’ve missed Friday Flair over the past few weeks.  I know that I said that I would come back way before this but, let’s just say… the move didn’t really go as planned.

Word of caution, don’t EVER rent a house sight unseen. Yes, I know that should go without saying. I thought things would go alright, I like to think the best of people, I had good vibes and I was wrong.  We arrived and the place was a disaster. I know it’s totally our fault for not taking the time to come out here to hunt for a house in person, but quite frankly, we just didn’t have the time.  Lesson learned… Won’t do that again!  We are making the best of things and counting down the days until our lease is up.  With this being our very first rental experience we are a little freaked out. But enough about me…

Here’s this weeks inspiration photo from Food Plus Words. Check out this BLACK Velvet Cake…

Thanks so much for hosting! Sorry your move didn’t go well. I’ve moved my fair share of long distance moves and never had one that went smoothly. I think it might just be the nature of the beast. Sorry your house isn’t a good fit. Hopefully you can move on again soon. Glad to have you back.

Hope you’re feeling settled there in your new place! And it sounds like your experience was not fun! We had trouble renting a place when we moved out here…and we even saw it first! Walked through with the property manager and she said “the owner will be back to clean this all up” The bathroom had toothpaste junk all over the mirror, and leftover soap, shampoo and scrubbies on the floor of the shower. When we came back to move in, of course none of it had been cleaned up. I was not happy (they sent people over to clean it a couple days later) But it still sounds like yours was worse!

Thanks for letting me share my own recipe of tasty and delicious
    Essentially Healthy Lemon Bars!

    Here’s the link:

  1. […] Serve with syrup. Notes – You can use what ever kind of fruit you would like! Berries would be awesome! – Vanilla bean is hard to whisk into the milk, as it tends to want to stay in a clump. I use a hand blender to mix it up. 3.1.09 I hope you enjoy this recipe! It would be fantastic and so convenient for overnight guests, and at busy times of the year like holidays! And best of luck in your chance to win groceries for a year! Have a delicious day!   In full disclosure, I bought the cream cheese all by my little old self.  With my own money.  ;) Yummy Linking: 36th Avenue, House of Hepworths, Whipperberry […]

  2. […] 12oz box Whoppers, slightly chopped Instructions Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In large mixing bowl, beat crisco, milk and brown sugar until combined. Add egg and beat until fully combined. Slowly beat in malted milk powder, flour, salt and baking soda. Press cookie dough into a large baking sheet with one inch sides. I used a 15 1/2 x 10inch pan. Bake for 18-20 minutes until browned. Remove from oven. Meanwhile, in large sauce pan, heat sweetened condensed milk over low heat. Add in milk chocolate and heat until smooth, whisking constantly. Remove from heat and whisk in ovaltine powder. Pour into prepared cookie crust. Pour whoppers into a large ziploc bag. Lay bag on a cutting board and whack it 2-3 times with a frying pan. Don’t pulverize the whoppers, and it’s okay if some are still whole. Press whoppers into fudge layer. Refrigerate cookies for 2 hours or overnight. Cut into squares. ENJOY! In large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until combined, about 2 minutes. Add pumpkin and eggs, beat until blended. Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and salt. Pour batter evenly into two cake pans. For the struesel, mix the ingredients together with a fork. Sprinkle over batter. Bake cakes in a 350 degree oven for 30-35 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool 10 minutes in pan. Remove to a wire rack and cool completely. For the drizzle, whisk ingredients together until smooth. Drizzle onto cooled cakes and allow to set, about 30 minutes. ENJOY!
