Hanging with My Gnomes Wreath • Video Tutorial

27 · Dec 3, 2018 · 1 Comment

Yo, yo, yo… I’m hanging with my Gnomes this Holiday season! LOL!! This is actually a fun Christmas tradition that comes from our favorite Nordic friends up in Sweden & Norway. Gnomes have always been a big part of their Holiday traditions and I thought it would be a fun one to add to our family’s Christmas this year. These cute gnomes are so easy to make and to add them to a yarn wrapped wreath form is a quick and easy way to introduce some new friends to your home. I grabbed all of my supplies at Michaels, my favorite creating store and set to work. Here’s how I made them.

This wreath couldn’t be easier! You could even get the kiddos involved as long as you’re in charge of the hot glue part. We don’t want any burned little fingers. They can cut out felt, make beards & even wrap the wreath with the yarn. It’s a great Holiday project for the family. Here is what you’ll need to make one.

Ok, had to create something fun when working with gnomes, right?

Here’s a quick list of instructions for the hanging with my gnomes wreath as well.

I grabbed all of my supplies at Michaels, my favorite creating store and set to work. Here's how I made them.

  1. Hot glue the wood heart onto the bottom of the peg person. The top of the heart will be the top of his feet.
  2. Measure the height of the peg person’s body and cut a strip of felt that is large enough to wrap around the peg person. I can’t really give exact measurements for this because all peg people are a little different.
  3. Hot glue the felt onto the body of the peg person.
  4. Tear a 2.5 inch section of wool roving and gently pull it apart a bit to create your gnomes beard.
  5. Carefully hot glue the beard onto the peg person.
  6. Cut a tall triangle out of felt for the gnomes hat. Make sure the base is wide enough to wrap around the peg person’s head.
  7. Hot glue a section of floral wire onto the inside part of the felt triangle.
  8. Hot glue the trangle together to create the gnome hat like in the video.
  9. Hot glue the hat onto your gnome’s head.
  10. Cut the stick off of the rock candy stick and then hot glue the wood ball onto the peg person for the nose.Yo, yo, yo... I'm hanging with my Gnomes this Holiday season! LOL!! 11. To start the wreath, tie a knot into the chunky yarn and secure it with the greening pins onto the wreath form.
  12. Wrap the form with the yarn until completely covered. It’s easier to work with smaller sections of yarn so cut lengths that are about 2 yards long and continue wrapping the wreath form until covered.
  13. Hot glue your new little gnome friends onto the center of the wreath.

WhipperBerry-Valentine's-Day-Printables

I love dressing up for the holidays, but I don't like to go over the top. Valentine's Day is one of those holidays that sometimes can get a little too pink and frilly for me. Some years I'm totally into it, other's I'm not. It just depends on the year.

This year I'm into it, but I was wanting some decor that had some class, maybe a little edge to it… Not so sappy sweet. I decided that creating some printable art work was the ticket and with a few other added elements could create a fun Valentine's Day display…

I'm LOVING the black & white trend these days, especially the black & white stripes. I thought it could  be a stylish backdrop to some fun love notes to display. I printed them and put them in some $3.99 frames from Target (they don't seem to have them online, but… I promise they are in the store) and then went to work creating a display to fit the mood.

I wrapped a wire floral wreath in yarn and dressed it up with some fun decorative tacks that I found at Hobby Lobby. PERFECT!! I added a smaller heart print in a decorative Nate Berkus frame from Target and it looked wonderful!

I took my favorite deer silhouette and antler candle sticks and wrapped them with yarn as well.

That added a little spunk and tied the whole display together. Then I printed a fun TRUE LOVE black & white printable banner to dress-up the mantle…

It turned out so cute! I just love the simple, understated polka dots with the bold stripes!

I also have a black & white stripe alphabet that I created for Skip to My Lou earlier this month. It's super cute and it has the entire alphabet so you can create any saying you want!!

NEW YEAR INSTAGRAM WREATH

0 · Dec 30, 2013 · 3 Comments

Hi Whipperberry friends!  It's Jenn from My Fabuless Life.  I hope your Holidays were wonderful!  Today I'm sharing a quick Memory Wreath I put together with some of my favorite moments (via Instagram) from the past year.  I have a sort of picture addiction and am always running out of space to hang or display more frames, so this is perfect for being able to display LOTS of pictures in a small space!

I started my Instagram wreath with a wire wreath form from the craft store and spray painted it gold.

Then I printed out my favorite Instagrams in black and white.  You can find a free template and tutorial on how to print them yourself here.

Once cut, I laid them out on the wreath to get an idea of placement, and then just slipped them between the wire.  I put a little piece of tape of the back of them to hold them in place and then taped some of them directly on.

Then I added a few yarn pom poms and that's it!  I plan on keeping this up all year and switching out the pictures periodically.

DIY Chunky Crocheted Vase Sweater

0 · Oct 14, 2013 · Leave a Comment

Hi all! Shannon from eat.sleep.make. here!  I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only person that is suffering from being overrun by generic glass vases that you've never used again since their first appearance housing a gifted bouquet of flowers.  I have a ridiculous amount.  I've been trying to figure out something "sustainable" to do with them.  You could always spray paint them… or… spray paint them..  That was all I could come up with, but then what do I do with a plethora of spray painted, oddly shaped vases?  I get exhausted just thinking about it all.

So, the round up I put together last of DIY Harvest Centerpieces inspired me.  Specifically, the repurposed sweaters as vase covers.  However, not wanting to cut up any of my sweaters, I decided to create my own.  I always have plenty of yarn stashed away… finally, the solution to my hoards of vases (and hoards of yarn) seemed easy, attainable… and attractive!

If you don't know how to crochet, I'll point you towards some great tutorials to help you.  I don't think I'm anywhere near proficient enough to teach someone the basics.  But, if you already know how to chain your first row and the basic crochet stitches, you'll be good to go!

I chained just enough to slightly stretch around the circumference of the base of the vase.  You want your vase sweater to squeeze slightly so it will stay in place.  Once you get your chain long enough, connect the end to your loop.  You will have a circle.

Next, chain 3 up and do a triple crochet stitch.  I find this gives such a great chunky feel to it, leaving the yarn with space between stitches without getting too tight.  Once you come full circle, do a single crochet stitch to connect the ends of that row.  You should have a seemless connection.  Just repeat that until your sweater is as tall as you need it to be to cover your vase.

Sources for Learning to Crochet:

Learn How to Crochet Part 1 – This video is very well done and I think pretty easy to follow.  Give it a shot if you want to learn the basics of crocheting.

Futuregirl Craft Blog – I've been following Alice for over 6 years now. She's the one that inspired me to learn to crochet to begin with.  Her blog offers some amazing tutorials and ideas!

The Happy Hooker – This book will teach you SO easily how to read crochet patterns.  Honestly, I never thought I'd understand all the weirdness that is a crochet pattern, but with this book, I was making flowers in no time.

**Disclaimer:  The above mentioned sources are not promoting this post.  I am simply mentioning them because they work.  I've tried them myself and I think they can help you all become awesome Hookers, too!
