98 · Aug 29, 2011 · 62 Comments

Have you ever had one of those moments when you find a simple recipe and wonder… Where have you been all my life?  As a kid, I remember when I was introduced to Magic Shell chocolate sauce, it was earth shattering for me.  I must have been seven or eight and I thought that was the COOLEST stuff EVER!!! Here is how you can make your very own homemade Magic Shell chocolate sauce…

For those of you who don't know… Magic Shell is a chocolate sauce that is liquid when you pour it on ice cream and then within a few seconds it solidifies and creates a tasty hard shell. Lovely!

{Recipe} Simple Vanilla Buttercream

28 · Aug 11, 2011 · 53 Comments

All my life I've never been much of a frosting girl.  I was a cake lover and my sister would always eat my frosting.  That was until I had the most amazing buttercream frosting a few months ago here in Vegas at a place called Project Cupcake. I am now obsessed with buttercream and I vow today to figure out how to make the heavenly concoction.  Maybe Project Cupcake will hook me up with some lessons…

With that said, I am going to start simple and work my way up.  Here is a fabulously easy buttercream recipe that anyone can master.

The trick… make sure the butter is at room temperature!  Do not put it in the microwave to soften. Plan ahead and take the butter out of the fridge an hour or two before you need it and you will have the most divine frosting.

Simple Vanilla Buttercream

1 cup of unsalted butter {2 sticks ~ softened}

2-4 cups of powdered sugar {sifted}

1/8 teaspoon of salt

1 tablespoon of good vanilla extract

2~4 tablespoons of milk or heavy cream

In a mixing bowl fited with the paddle attachment, mix the butter at medium speed until nice and smooth.  Turn the mixer down to low and slowly add 3 cups of the sifted sugar.  Once sugar is fully incorporated turn the mixer up to medium and add salt and vanilla.  Add 2 tablespoons of cream and mix for 3 minutes.  Check the consistancy of the buttercream.  If it is to loose, add more sugar. If it is stuff, add more cream.  This recipe is really forgiving so work with it until you have the consistancy that you are looking for.

Recipe ~ Cranberry Chili Street Taco

0 · Jul 28, 2011 · 33 Comments

Just in case you were wondering… we here at WhipperBerry don’t live on cake alone! I know you think we do.  Truly we love food of all kinds!

One of my all time favorite obsessions is street food.  In my imagination I live a nomadic life roaming from exotic locale to exotic locale trying all of the fun street food that place has to offer.  Then realitiy sets in… and the most exotic street vendor I can add to my list is the haggis cart {all be it, the American version} at the local Scotish Festival.  Shocking, I know.  With that said… I LOVE street tacos!  Quite frankly I haven’t met a street taco that I didn’t love.  The combination of the warm corn tortilla filled with spicy grilled or slow cooked meat with all of the fun topping combinations really makes this girl happy.

{Biggest Loser Recipe}The Sarah Bear Smoothie

11 · Mar 24, 2011 · 22 Comments

A little back history on the name…

The “Sarah Bear Smoothie” is my one claim to fame on the Ranch! Getting a food named after me was a victory that I hoped for but hardly believed could happen because I struggled so much in the cooking department while on the show. We were required to cook for ourselves on the Ranch and the kitchen was always kept stocked with the best foods available. Meal time was fun and exciting for most Biggest Loser contestants, but I would end up staring blankly into the refrigerator for the entire hour having no idea what to make—and in the end copying someone else's meal.

When someone would invent a certain dish that became popular amongst the crowd, we would name it after that player. Because I couldn't come up with anything new on my own, my day would basically consist of eating the Irene for breakfast, the Courtney for lunch, and either the Justin or the Jay-bird for dinner (recipes that I will for sure be sharing!). You get the idea. So, you can imagine my overwhelming joy when I invented this smoothie and everyone loved it so much they started calling it "the Sarah Bear"! I was ecstatic! Not only did it receive my name—which made me feel cooler than Lady Gaga—but it was also given the best breakfast award AND the best dessert award. And since it received both awards I feel justified now in eating it for both breakfast AND dessert in the same day. It's just that good. Enjoy!

The Sarah Bear Smoothie

  • 2 cups of frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 1 cup of Greek yogurt
  • Sweeten to taste with Truvia

Once again, I busted out the Magic Bullet (you can use a regular blender if you’re cool like that). Add all of the ingredients to the blender and blend.  That’s it!

It’s Bob and Jillian approved so you must try it… and let me know what you think!
