Elmers #GlueNGlitter Thanksgiving Candle

0 · Nov 5, 2011 · 33 Comments

I am having a ball getting ready for Thanksgiving this year!  I've decided that I needed a great Thanksgiving Candle all dressed up for the occasion with the help of Elmer's products…

Before I could start, my daughter and I traveled to our local Wal-Mart to find some fun new Elmer's tools to use for the candle.  If you would like to follow along with us on our trip click here for the fun shopping play-by-play.

Here are the fun items that we just had to include in our Elmer's #gluenglitter tool box…

Among other things, we purchased some Elmer's foam board, an X-ACTO Knife, X-ACTO cutting mat, an Elmer's tape runner and a Elmer's Spot Stamper.  This is my new favorite find!  No more glue dots stuck to this girls fingers.  We also used some Elmer's extra strength glue stick which is not pictured here. Sorry glue stick!

Here are the items we will be working with…

A fabulous three wick candle, some fabric and kraft paper leaves that I cut on my new Silhouette Cameo.  The leaves look great, but I really wanted them to pop off the candle and have more of a 3D effect.  We all know everything is cooler in 3D!! I also used heavy duty hemp twine, a rubber alphabet stamp and brown ink for the project.

To begin, I cut the fabric into a four inch wide band to wrap around the candle and secured it with the Elmer's extra strength glue stick…

With that done I got to work on my Thanksgiving leaves.  I used my Elmer's tape runner to affix the leaves to the Elmer's foam board like this…

I then took my X-ACTO knife and cutting mat and carefully carved around my leaf…

This take a little finesse, but I PROMISE it is worth it!! Once the leaf is cut out I used my alphabet stamp to add things that we are thankful for on one of the leaves, and "Give Thanks" on the other one.  Then I treated the edges of the leaves with the stamp ink.  I actually just used my finger…

Fingers can be such great tools! Next, I punched holes in the top of the leaf and then attached the leaves to the candle with some heavy hemp twine and the glue dots using the Spot Stamper, LOVE that thing!!

Voila!  We now have a fun and festive Thanksgiving Candle all thanks to Elmers and their fun family of products!!

What are you guys planning on making for the holiday? I would love to hear your fun ideas!!

This project has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Elmer's #gluenglitter #collectivebias #CBias

Oh yea… you’ll have to come over and say hello this week! Sheepishly I say no, I actually got the candle at Hobby Lobby. I bought one at Wal-Mart but it just did have the right look. When I saw the green one and Hobby Lobby it just spoke to me.
