Polka Dot Jars

15 · Aug 21, 2012 · 19 Comments

Polka Dot Jars // If you have followed WhipperBerry for any time at all, you know I love my jars. I love to bake with jars, decorate with jars, organize with jars… you name it, I ADORE jars.  This week I found another fun, yet simple way to dress up my jars with DecoArt Glass Paint …

Polka Dot Jars copy

Isn’t this a fun way to dress up your jars for an event? It couldn’t be simpler with DecoArts Glass Paint 3D Frost Gloss Enamels…

Deco Art Glass Paint

DecoArt sent me a bunch of their glass paint to take for a spin. I was madly getting ready for my last minute trip to Hawaii, so I didn’t have a ton of time to create a painted masterpiece.  I did however have just enough time to dress up a jar and then I had a thought… This would be so fun for a birthday party or shower, basically any type of event where you would like to add a little playful fun element to the party. The nice part it hardly takes any time at all to create these fun polka dot jars.

Supply List

  • Ball quilted 8 oz. jelly jars
  • DecoArt 3D Frost Gloss Enamels {you can find this at Michaels over with the glass vases and stuff. Isn’t that cool… the glass paint has it’s very own section!!}
  • Mason daisy drinking lids
  • Stripped straws

Instructions

  1. Make sure your jars are clean inside and out. Wipe down the outside of the jar with alcohol to prepare it for the paint.
  2. Select your 3D Frosted Gloss Enamel color and using the handy tip just start placing dots at the tip of every diamond on the quilted glass jar.
  3. Let dry completely, this takes a few hours or best over night.
  4. Fill with your party beverage, screw on the lid and top it off with the fancy straw.
  5. Line up your jars on a table or tray and your guests will be amazed!!

How easy is that!! Seriously, you could get a whole parties worth of jars painted in no time at all.  Give it a go and let me know what you think!

If you are looking for more glass painting projects, DecoArt has created a fabulous site for their Glass Painting Program that you should check out.  It has all kinds of project ideas, product information and videos!!

Sail Cloth Shower Curtains | Guest Post

3 · Jul 3, 2012 · 3 Comments

Soooo when I was at Haven I met the sweetest lady that I just fell in love with and her name is Kari and she has the most beautiful blog called Thistlewood Farm. She is one of those sweet southern belle ladies with a personality the size of Georgia and I ADORE her!!  When I had a chance to check out her amazing blog after we met I was blown away with her work and HAD to share her talents with you today as she teaches us how to make sail cloth shower curtains.  So, take it away Kari…

Hello Whipperberry readers. I'm Kari from Thistlewood Farm and I am so excited to be here with you today, sharing my numbered sailcloth shower curtain project.

Sailcloth Shower Curtain Tutorial

Supplies:

Red Cotton fabric from Wal-mart (the thicker the better)

Scissors

White Shower Curtain

Sharpie

Pins

Step 1:

Print out extremely large numbers on your computer in Ariel Bold.

These were printed at 700 x.

Cut out numbers and photograph them on grapevine.

Because printed numbers photographed on the table just aren't the same.

And because you have been pinning photo props on pinterest in your quest to be a highly sought after grapevine numbers photographer.

Number four image

Step 2:

Take your 700x Bold Ariel Font numbers and trace them with a sharpie.

Backwards.

Because when you traced them frontwards….the sharpie showed.

And even though you tried to fray the sharpie off the edges.

You still knew it was there.

And the little bits of sharpie that still showed even after you tried to fray the edges took on the proportions of the Empire State Building lit up red white and blue for the fourth of July.

Trust me.

Backwards is so much more sharpieless.

Step 3:

Cut out the numbers.

And then pin them onto the white shower curtain.

I pinned them diagonally.

To create the impression that I had just ripped the sail off a sailboat.

And hung it up as a shower curtain in the bathroom.

And so it would look like this without spending the $100.

Step 4:

Pin the numbers onto the shower curtain.

Stitch a one-inch border in contrasting thread.

Fray the edges.

And hang shower curtain and liner on nickel-plated hooks.

Total cost if you would have bought it online: $100.00.

Total cost for project: $16.93.

Simple.

Easy.

For less than the cost of a movie, popcorn and a box of junior mints.

PS For more project inspiration or just a glass of sweet tea….stop by for a visit at Thistlewood Farm!

PPS Thank you so much for having me over today, Heather. You are such a rock star and so full of creativity and inspiration!

Styled by Tori Spelling | Become Your Own Jewelry Designer

1 · Jun 12, 2012 · 4 Comments

Have you ever had the secret fantasy of becoming a jewelry designer? Or, have you ever bought a piece of jewelry and wished that you could customize it to your taste, only to be sadly disappointed that you were stuck with what you bought? Well, your wait is over!! Tory Spelling has introduced a fabulous new line of affordable, customizable, easy to make jewelry called Styled by Tori Spelling!!

Design Elements

Tori's line as hundreds if not thousands of options for creating your own jewelry that you would be proud to show-off.  Here are just a few of the fun pieces you have to work with…

These are some pendants / broaches / rings… quite frankly any thing you can dream up can be made with these beautiful statement pieces.

Here is a taste of some of the bracelet options from the Glitz and Noir lines. Here's how the whole thing works…

make a bracelet

  • Select the bracelet chain or chains that you would like to work with. The have claw connectors at either end.
  • Select a statement piece,
  • For mine here I connected the three chains that I selected to the rosette on one side.
  • Then I used a connector piece to connect the three chains to and then used the connector to secure the chains to the other side of the rosette.  That way I can easily put the bracelet on without fumbling with three chains. Voila, it's finished and STUNNING!!

make a necklace

  • For this necklace I used a bracelet chain as the connector for the bottom of the necklace because I wanted the necklace to be a little shorter than it would be with the normal necklace connectors.
  • I also wanted to add some color so I weaved some embroidery thread into the larger chain of the necklace bottom and knotted it on either side.
  • Then I secured the bracelet chain to the necklace bottom and it was finished. It took like 5 minutes tops!

make earrings

Now this little trick is what made me fall in LOVE with this line. I don't have the longest neck so wearing long earrings looks a little silly on me. Here is what I did to make some fun earrings that I just adore!

  • I selected earrings and the earring connectors and then took the small bead at the top of the earring and created a bead overlay for the main earring.
  • Then I secured the earring connector at the top of the main earring.  It looks great.
  • The nice thing is that you can wear it either way.

where to find Styled by Tori Spelling

I am just overwhelmed by the options in the four different lines. The necklace above is one of my favorites!! I just adore all of the colors and textures. Now if you would like to become your very own jewelry designer you can find the entire line at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store or select pieces are also at Michael's.
