Thanksgiving Place Cards with GiftGloss

0 · Nov 15, 2012 · 2 Comments

‘Tis the season my friends… The season to pull out your GiftGloss from the FoofQueens to get ready for your Thanksgiving feast!

GiftGloss place cards

I made this fun place card with my six inch GiftGloss.  I love that you can hang this little goodie on the back of everyone’s chair and then they have a sweet goodie to take home with them after your feast.  A dual purpose place card/ party favor!!

Thanksgiving place card with GiftGloss

This couldn’t be any easier thanks to GiftGloss. I place a fun heart ornament that I found at Target inside the GiftGloss with a Kraft paper gift tag tied onto it with my guest’s name.  I wrote the name and drew the stripes with a white chalk marker that you can find at your local craft store. I love the simple handwritten look. Then I added a little sweet to the package with some Hershey Kisses with almonds and that’s it! I tied the two ends together with some tiny pom poms and then created a hanger with some fun Sashay yarn from Red Heart Yarn.

Now, all you have to do is hang it from everyone’s chair to decorate for your Thanksgiving Feast!

Don’t have any GiftGloss? Well, that’s no problem!! The FoofQueen’s have sent over a great deal for you guys, to help you join the GiftGloss craze!

Head on over to the GiftGloss site to stock up and then you two can dream  up some fun ideas to spoil your guests with this Thanksgiving!!

Sharpie Art Gift Set // Mug A Love Hot Chocolate

4 · Nov 13, 2012 · 26 Comments

I was a guest over at Infarrently Creative a little bit ago and I thought I would share what I created for Beckie and her friends over there.  A Sharpie Art Gift Set.  Check out how to make this fun and inexpensive gift for your family and friends this holiday season…

Hello all my IC friends! I’m Heather from WhipperBerry and I’m over the moon excited to be here with Beckie to share my Sharpie Art Gift Mugs today. I just adore Beckie and all her amazing talents.  She’s one lady I would LOVE to spend a day with, just to hopefully glean from some of her knowledge, talents & energy!! One talented lady I must say…

I love this pennywise presents series she’s running this month and I have a fun one to share…

Who doesn’t love a good hot chocolate mug during the chilly months and especially if it’s a mug full of LOVE?! That’s how I came up with my “A Mug A Love” gift idea to share. Here is what you will need…

Supplies

  • light colored ceramic mug
  • a Sharpie
  • plastic sandwich bag
  • hot chocolate mix, favorite coffee blend, tea or Choffy
  • Kraft paper gift tag
  • white chalk pencil

Optional Supplies

  • vinyl
  • vinyl cutting tool (I used the Silhouette Portrait)
  • burlap gift bag
  • bag embellishments (ribbon, bakers twine, whatever you would like to use to dress up your bag)

Directions

You can go big or minimalist with this project for sure. It all depends on your style and your budget.  Also, the sky is the limit as far as the design is concerned. I’ve seen some lovely hand written designs that people have created with their sharpies on ceramic mugs, plates and bowls.  I, however am not gifted in the hand writing area.  I have decent handwriting, but I’m too much of a perfectionist and I would blow through 150 mugs, (I’m sure,) trying to get it just right!! I decided to create a vinyl stencil so I didn’t have to go through that headache.  If you are artistically inclined, you can just skip this step and free-hand your design.

I created a design using my Silhouette Designer Edition software and cut the vinyl on my Silhouette Portrait.

Using the Silhouette Portrait

This way I had a custom stencil for my Sharpie art.  I placed the stencil on the mug and then carefully colored in the design…

Using a stencil to create a fun graphic on a mug with a Sharpie

I say carefully because, even with the vinyl the Sharpie ink can bleed through and mess up your crisp lines. What I learned is to press on the marker lightly and trace the edges first.  By doing that your design will come out perfect!

Once your design is complete, place it in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes to set the ink.  This way your design will become permanent and whom ever you are gifting it to can wash it, run it through the dishwasher, you name it and the Sharpie ink will not smudge!! How fun is that?

I did two different versions… A Mug A Love and Mug A Love, basically because I couldn’t decide which one I liked better. Yep… commitment issues.

Like I said before, it’s up to you and your budget as to how you dress-up your bag that goes inside the mug. You can take the minimalist approach and put your mix in a basic bag with a gift tag which would look lovely, or you could dress it up however you like. I chose to put my hot chocolate mix into a small burlap bag and dress it up with a small crocheted red doily paired with a simply Kraft paper tag. I wrote Merry Christmas on the tag with a white chalk pencil that you can find in any art supply store. It’s has a finer tip than your basic stick of chalk so it looks a little better.

Now all you have to do is fill it with your desired hot beverage mix and voila, you have a personal, yet inexpensive, not very time consuming gift to give to your friends and family.

DIY Statement Ring with Styled by Tori

0 · Nov 7, 2012 · 4 Comments

From the minute I was introduced to the Styled by Tori collection of DIY jewelry, I thought some of the necklace pendants would make fabulous statement rings…

DIY Statement Ring with Styled by Tori #toristyle copy

I mean, check that out!  Wouldn’t it look fabulous on your hand? I gathered up some simple supplies and set to work on the easiest jewelry project EVER!

supplies needed for DIY statement ring

Supplies

  • adjustable ring base
  • Styled by Tori pendant
  • E-6000 glue

Instructions

This couldn’t be easier… I took my scissors and roughed up the ring base a little bit so that the glue had something to hold on to. Then I placed a dollop of E-6000 on the ring base. Not too much, a little less than a pea size drop. Place the pendant on the ring base and then set the ring pendant side down in a safe place.

Now’s the hard part, you have to sit and wait.  Let the ring sit over night so that the glue can cure and create a strong bond.  That way you won’t ever have to worry about the sparkle popping off, ever! Once the glue is cured, all you have to do is slide that fabulous ring on your hand and head on out and strut your stuff! Here’s lil’Whip a.k.a. my daughter Hales showing off this fun ring…

Isn’t is pretty? I actually bought a fun statement ring from a major retailer not too long ago and paid almost three times the price than what I paid to DIY this little beauty myself.  Here you check out the difference…

The picture on the left is the Instagram that I took right after I bought my fancy ring and paid the fancy price for it.  On the right is the ring that I DIY’d with Style by Tori. I have developed quite a crush on the ring and it’s lower price tag!

Wouldn’t it be fun to make a whole bunch of these to give out to your favorite girl friends for the Holiday’s this year? You’ll look like a DIY rock star… well, that maybe a bit of an overstatement.  But, I’m sure all your friends will love them!

You can find the entire collection of Styled by Tori at your local Michaels and a large selection is also available at your Joann Craft Center.  I noticed that they are on sale over at JoAnns this week, a great time to stock up for the holidays!

Jeweled Mini Christmas Wreath with Styled by Tori

1 · Nov 6, 2012 · 7 Comments

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… well not really. But it’s GO TIME for holiday crafting. I love this time of year, it’s a time to pull the magic back into our lives for a few months and I just love it.  I love that with holiday decorating you can transform your home into a wonderland for just a little bit and show off your fun style for that season.  This year I am loving the possibilities with the Styled by Tori line of custom jewelry and craft elements. I decided to make a Styled by Tori jeweled wreath out of some of the fun necklace pendants in the line along with a necklace bottom to be the foundation for the wreath…

This is a cute mini wreath that you can use as a tree ornament or add it as a fun embellishment to your décor. It would make a fabulous gift for your friends or family and it’s super simple to make… I just love how they turned out! Here is what you will need.

styled by tori elements

Supplies for the Mini Jeweled Wreath

  • Heavy gauge aluminum floral wire
  • Light 22 gauge aluminum floral wire
  • Styled by Tori Glitz Necklace Bottom
  • 3-8 Styled by Tori necklace pendants
  • 1 Styled by Tori Chain Connector
  • Needle nose pliers with wire cutting capability
  • E-6000 Glue (optional)

Instructions

To begin, you will need to cut a piece of the heavy gauge floral wire roughly about 12 inches. Then feed it through the necklace bottom and connect the two sides together with the chain connector.

Feed the tails of the wire back through the necklace bottom and trim off any excess.

Work it into a nice circle shape.  Next using the light gauge floral wire, begin to attach the necklace pendants onto the wreath form. I chose to use wire rather than glue, because I didn’t want to worry about one of the pendants popping off.  I felt like wire would make a more stable wreath.

wiring the styled by tori elements onto the wreath

For added stability you can add a little E-6000 if you would like.  I wired mine pretty well so I didn’t feel the need to add the glue.

At this point you are the designer.  You can fill the entire wreath with pendants like this…

Or you can use just a few to accent the necklace bottom wreath like this…

Either way, it makes a lovely little accent piece for your holiday décor.  You could even add a ribbon and use it to decorate some gifts if you like.  Wouldn’t that make for a stunning gift box? What do you think? How would you use your jeweled mini wreath?
