{Tutorial} Sweater Flowers

125 · Oct 27, 2010 · 26 Comments

This is a sneak peak into our guest post for Jen at Tatertots & Jell-o Friday, but I just couldn’t wait to share!

Sweater Flower 060_edited-1

Not too long ago, I discovered some fabulous sweater flowers made by Linda over at Craftaholics Anonymous, and thought I would give them a go.

First, you will need some old sweaters.  I found mine at a thrift store for a few dollars, I just couldn’t stomach cutting up my sweaters knowing how much I paid for them.

Take the sleeve of the sweater and cut roughly a 4 to 5 inch section off.

I double thread a regular sewing needle and tie a knot at the end. Fold the sweater round in half, right sides out.

Sweater Flower 023  Sweater Flower 012

Hand sew a basting stitch along the bottom 1/4 of the sweater round, making sure to catch both layers of sweater.

I like to pull the thread while I continue the basting stich.  I find it’s much easier to gather, and it lessens the likelihood of the thread breaking.

Once you have completed the basting stitch, tie a knot to secure.

Flip the flower over.

Now you can embellish the flower center however you like.

…or another type of fabric flower.  This is a twisted muslin flower.  Aren’t they fun!!!

The ideas are limitless!!  I have visions of a Sweater Flower Christmas Wreath in my future!!

Halloween Round-Up

0 · Oct 27, 2010 · 6 Comments

Last night I went to a super fun Halloween get together and it got me thinking about all of the amazing treasures I have found out in the blog world, so I thought I would share some of my finds.

I LOVE these bats from Crafty Sisters.

Photographer Rebecca Cooper gave great tips for photographing your little ghosts and goblins this Halloween via the lovely ladies at Eighteen25.

These just look sinful! As one of those strange people who adore candy corns, I have put this one on my must try list.  You can find the recipe at BakedBree.com.

Ok, so this is from a Fall post, but I thought it looked sooo yummy to have after a brisk night of Trick-or-Treating.  It’s even starting to cool down here in Vegas!  Check out their other amazing Fall goodness at Kara’s Party Ideas.

There they are again, those tasty little candy corns!  This comes from another candy corn lover, Jennifer from Shutterbug and the Sweet Life.

Happy Haunting Everyone!!

{Giveaway} SeamsMod Diaper Clutch

0 · Oct 26, 2010 · 190 Comments

{Giveaway closed.  Congrats comment #1 Rachel!}

The other day I was surfing the blog world and stumbled upon a fabulous Etsy shop that I fell in love with. {Thank you Bouffe e Bamnini!}

SeamsMod Banner

SeamsMod is the wonderful creation of Heather Voorhaar an architect by trade, but an artist with textiles.

WB 035 (2)

Here is a little about the artist in her own words…

“Growing up I never understood my mother’s love of fabric and her ability to scout out quilt stores during family vacations.  Well, call it what you want, but I now share a similar love of fabric and creating handmade goods.  My husband and I recently enjoyed a long weekend away and I found myself researching fabric stores before we left!   Amy Butler and Joel Dewberry are a few of the fabric designers that captivated my attention a few years ago with their eclectic and modern designs.  From there, my love of making purses officially began and ultimately led to the creation of SeamsMod.

Trained as an architect, SeamsMod not only grew out my love for modern-fabric and design, but an even greater need to find happy homes for my creations!  My husband and I call an 800sf mid-century mod-inspired condo home–these cozy quarters have inspired me to create as fast I purchase fabric.

Not only do I have a passion for great textiles and creating handbags, I enjoy creating sweet goodies and baking with good friends, I believe that cupcakes and chocolate can truly make anything better.  I am fortunate to have great friends that not only condone my baking habits, but have become supporters of SeamsMod and are constantly contributing ideas and fostering my creativity as a designer.  The collaborative process of design is rewarding and I enjoy the outcome of a custom request. Inspired by clean, modern design, I also have a true soft spot for anything vintage.  I find myself lost on Etsy in a world of handmade goods for hours, always on the lookout for unique necklaces.   I have a desire to collect chairs, mixing bowls, and cake stands–all frivolous items, and things not necessarily needed in multiples!”

Isn’t she divine?!  I knew we would be like two peas in a pod, especially with us both having the name Heather.

Heather has many different handbags, tote, and clutch designs in her shop, but what I fell in love with was the diaper clutch.  Having a rather new little one still in diapers it appealed to me.  When I received it in the mail I was awestruck!!!

Look at her attention to detail.  Not to mention the incredible fabric selections.  This woman is a true artist. It’s perfect for diapers, wipes, and a few little odds and ends.  She even includes a keychain and a clip right on the clutch to attach it to another bag if you would like.  I am soooo in love with my new diaper clutch!!!

The good news for you…

She sent me TWO!!!!

{Dessert Table} Vintage Truck Table

1 · Oct 25, 2010 · 18 Comments

A while ago I hinted about a project that we were working on here at WhipperBerry.  A project that involved yellows and grays, one of my favorite color palettes right now (I bet you couldn’t tell).  It also involved a truck…a BEAUTIFUL truck.  This truck is owned by our friends Max & Christi at the McKee Ranch.  As soon as we saw it we knew we had to create a dessert table just for this truck!

Isn’t it a gem?!!

_MG_2278 a

I am soooo in love with this truck.

We got to work.  I was in charge of the concept and overall design.  Whitney made AMAZING cookies…Christene made gorgeous cake skewers and tasty lemon cheesecakes …

_MG_2216 a  _MG_2237 a

…Jamie made the beautiful sugared pears, and Emily handmade the leaves for the pears, as well as the pie wrappers…Kristin created the beautiful labels for the table…

_MG_2282 a

…Erin provided the picturesque location at The Secret Garden (she even got us featured on the local news!) …and Jeanna Hayes {our unofficial WhipperChick} took some incredible photos!  All in all, a real team effort.

The icing on top…Amy Atlas featured our table last week on her blog!!  It doesn’t get any better than that.

So now that you know what gets my creative mind headed into overdrive, what’s your muse?
