Fall 2010 Makeup Trends

0 · Sep 23, 2010 · 5 Comments

I, like so many other people I know, am in LOVE with Fall! Unfortunately, here in Las Vegas, we have to celebrate in spirit because our climate doesn’t really cooperate. We get a couple weeks of cooler weather in late October/early November before plummeting face first into Winter. But that doesn’t mean we can’t bring on the Fall colors and trends!

I love revamping my makeup palette, so I’ve been checking out what’s hot for the upcoming season, and thought I would pass on a few finds. You may be surprised.

Color Color Color!

The overwhelming message is clear, ladies: Color is back, and it’s better than ever! I took a hard look at my cosmetic shelf and found it overflowing with neutrality! I saw beige, brown, taupe, buff, tan and did I mention beige? Blaw! Now I’m not going to extremes and throwing it all away, because there’s nothing better than neutral shades for blending and building color, but I’m definitely adding some boldness to my Swiss mix. 🙂

Purple is In

There’s no denying it, exciting shades of bright orchid, mauve, plum, lavender, and eggplant are transporting purple power to Fall, delivering obsession-worthy color to eyes, lips, and nails. Surprised? I am! Seeing violet turn heads in the Spring and Summer is nothing new, but it’s becoming a full-forced Fall makeup movement, rendering the entire purple spectrum utterly irresistible! And purple is a lovely fresh take on the obligatory browns and berries we see every Autumn.

Dramatic eyes

Two words: Liquid eyeliner. Yup! Don’t be shy, add a rich bold line to make your eyes stand out. And guess what color almost every cosmetic line is adding to their Fall liquid eyeliner shelf? That’s right, purple! Even mascaras are being tinted with this royal shade. Unlike blue, purple appears almost like a rich black with a bit more pop.

Add a grey shadow to your palette. The smoky eye is now more colorful. Use a dual toned look because it’s strong but simple.

Hot Items

You’ll find a lot of lines carry a blush and bronzer combined. The bronzer adds definition to the cheekbones, while the blush keeps your cheeks glowing.

Try a deep brown nail color. Deep browns, like dark reds, look classic on nails, but their refined, down-to-earth character softens them.

It also seems that the biggest rule this season is: there are no rules! So consider this permission to have fun and do what makes you happy. What things do you have in mind for revamping your look?

{Cupcake Skewers} Pumpkin Spice

Ahh, Fall. How I love thee! Sometime around the first of September every surface from entry to kitchen in my house crops up with pumpkins of all kinds, Indian corn, scarecrows, and leaves in all the vibrant hues of the season. I start dreaming of soups filled with Summer’s harvest, whipped up to warm all the little bellies that gather ‘round my table. It’s my favorite time of year when all the world seems to be taking a deep breath of anticipation for the fun and fanfare to come, while still refreshed from the remnants of Summer’s rest. All those plump orange globes sparked the inspiration for my second set of skewers for the Cupcake Skewer contest at Pizzazzerie. Have you been over to check them out yet? So fun, right?

These festive little cakes are spice cake whipped into submission with some pumpkin, baked and cut into their proper shape. I topped them with delicious cream cheese frosting, a pretzel stem dipped in green chocolate, and organic shelled pumpkin seeds for leaves. Mmmm…. you can smell Fall in the air, can’t you?

How do you welcome in the change of the season?

This table was made for all you lovely readers!  Halloween is just around the corner and I know you’re thinking about pulling out your decor and maybe even throwing a great Halloween party.  Perhaps you need a little vision, something to get the creative juices flowing, any inspiration.  If you love any of the elements from this dessert table, you can get them!  Later this week, I will be opening up my Etsy shop and offering my first party kit.  Included are all the non-food items from this dessert table.  The trick-or-treat bunting, the sequins around the cake, the fabulous twine and wrapping, and so on.  Basically, if you can’t eat it, you can buy it.  If you have any questions about this party kit, or to get your order in now, feel free to email me at whitney@whipperberry.com.

His and Her Two-Tiered Vintage Wedding {Cupcake Skewers}

0 · Sep 20, 2010 · 10 Comments

WB 011

My Grandma’s hands are like velvet, woven with fine lines and worn thin from daily use. They’ve nurtured six children, let go of one, and cared for numerous grandchildren with a love that warms the heart. I want to clasp them tighter every time we are together for fear I won’t get to hold them much longer. They weren’t always so well-worn, of course. Her wedding photo is black and white and reveals a tiny young woman with raven hair and a broad smile. I love to think of her in her younger days filled with dreams and hopes, just like me. This was my inspiration when I created these lovely little two-tiered vintage wedding skewers. These tiny beauties come in His and Hers. Handmade flowers garnish Hers along with a ruffle of frosting and bodice of lace reminiscent of a flowing wedding gown. His boasts a duo of bowties and a hint of lace cummerbund. Both are topped with old buttons. Hers is garnished with flowers and a ribbon while His boasts a coat of arms. At their base are a flurry of tone on tone bows and ties with one extra touch, a lock for Her and the key for Him suggesting the exchange that comes when two hearts are joined together.

I don’t know what my Grandma’s cake looked like sometime in the 1920s, but I know she would love something like these darling cakes all decked in ribbons and lace. Don’t you agree?

Hopefully the talented Ladies at Pizzazzerie will like this little twist on their lovely cupcake skewers. I’m entering them in the Cupcake Skewer contest they have going through September 22, 2010. Do you have a great Cupcake Skewer idea? Check out their simple tutorial and then submit your fanciest work. Good Luck!
