Not everyone has the time or the desire to spend hours and hours baking cookies and watching your handmade caramels on the stove this time of year. Many of us have too many thing on our plate for handmade gifts this year. Not to worry, Trader Joe’s has some fantastic Christmas goodies that you can dress up with my free printable tags and your friends and family will love your simple gift! I was at Trader Joe’s the other day and noticed how fun their Holiday packaging was. I grabbed a stash of goodies and set to work…

My thought was… I can add a little more pizzaz with some free printable gift tags and they will make perfect gifts!

Today I’m sharing my SAVORY gift pack. Not everyone has a sweet tooth you know. I LOVE getting some scrumptious savory Christmas gifts this time of year. I gather some of my favorite savory items and put together a trio…

First, I selected a premium Balsamic Vinegar. I LOVE Balsamic Vinegar and I’m always on the look out for a tasty new vinegar. This one is divine!

Any foodie knows that this is salt is the Queen of Salts. Fleur De Sel is a special salt harvested from the top of salt ponds in the Brittany region of France. It’s a special finishing salt that provides a lovely burst of saltiness in your mouth. Many people add this type of salt to the top of salted caramels, I love it on top of a good steak. This is a great savory gift!

I adore a good Antipasta and this one from Trader Joe’s looks tasty! It’s a combination of artichoke hearts, olives, sundried tomatoes, grilled mushrooms & preserved lemons. It looks tasty!! This jar came with a burlap lid covering that I didn’t love, so I switched that out with some of my favorite ticking cloth and add a fun printable tag to the top.

Now all you have to do, is print the tags on cardstock. I printed mine on a kraft paper cardstock. Then cut the tags out with your paper cutter or scissors.

Add some gold baker’s twine from TomKat Studios…

Tie it onto your jar and you’re good to go!

Add this trio to a gift basket or bag and you’re all set. This is a gift any foodie on your list will LOVE!!

Last Minute Holiday Gifts with GiftGloss

I ran to the store yesterday and checked out the bakery section to find some goodies that I could repackage and give as fun gifts for friends & neighbors when you are in a pinch. Here are some suggestions that I have…

No. 1 Select a Theme

Even when you are in a hurry, take a few minutes to come up with a cohesive theme. This will kick your quick goodie up a notch and turn it into a stunning gift. It took just a few minutes to go through the bakery and candy section at the store to find a few items that would go with my red, white & chocolate theme.

No. 2 Packaging

Nothing screams LAME more than store bought goodies brought in their store containers. To save myself from that mistake I keep a few items on hand to save me when in a pinch…

Decorative plates or containers – The skies the limit here, as long as they fit in the 6 or 12 inch GiftGloss tube.
Fancy parchment paper – I found my red dot parchment paper at Cost Plus World Market
Ribbon, twine, yarn or some type of decorative tie – I found my fun personalized ribbon on Pick Your Plum not too long ago. It says “Merry Christmas from the Thoming Family” LOVE it!!

No. 3 Placement

You’ve taken the time to get the goodies, stock the fun packaging… Now you need to make sure you create a beautiful goodie package or plate by making sure you place thing well.

Don’t over crowd the plate.
Use the color to your advantage with color groups.
Think of your patterns and textures and place accordingly.
For large plates have one item be the show stopper then add to it with a good supportive selection of items. For example, in my large plate I have the beautiful cookies as my show stopper and then the supportive cast accentuates the beautiful cookies.

Now, if you keep all of those things well stocked, you can have some amazingly SIMPLE yet STUNNING holiday gifts in a snap.

Spring has sprung, the flowers have started to bloom, the sun is warming up and we are entering the spring gift giving season. I don't know about you, but over the years I have found that I LOVE getting a gift card. That way I can get exactly what I want, plus it's an excuse to go shopping!! For the candy leis I picked some fun candy and tied off the end of the gloss with what ever material you would like. I used baker's twine, but you could use anything. Then dropped in a few candies at a time tying it off every few inches to create the lei effect.

Then drop your gift card into your desired spot and tie it off just like the candy…

Once you have the desired length, tie the two ends together and you have a fun gift card candy lei…

Now what mom or teacher wouldn't love this fabulous sweet treat? I embellished mine with a fun cupcake liner flower that I made with my i-top button maker. Here is how I made it…

I used two small cupcake liners, two large cupcake liners and one i-top brad. I trimmed the edge of one of the small cupcake liners to fit the brad and secured it in place by folding it down.

Load into the i-top. Take the second small cupcake liner and place on top of the loaded brad top and then place the bottom of the brad inside the i-top and click it into place.

Take your two large cupcake liners and arrange them how you like by manipulating the center of the liner to create the desired effect. Take the brad that you just created and push through the center to create the flower.

You can then take your flower brad and poke it through the gift gloss and secure it to embellish your gift card candy lei.

How fun is that? Now you can be excited to give a gift card, rather than sheepishly handing them a boring flat envelope thanks to the FoofQueens and GiftGloss!!
