EVO 2012 // Why I LOVE This Conference

0 · Jul 18, 2012 · 3 Comments

Not all blog conferences are created equal, I've been to a fair share and I've seen the good, the bad and the spectacular. EVO 2012 // The Evolution of Women in Social Media Conference is one of my favorites! This year was my second year and even the second time around I was blown away.

Why Attend EVO?

EVO is a conference that covers several types of blogs. You have your foodies, your mommy bloggers, the humorists and the creatives. It kind of sounds like all the social groups in high school.  You have your preppies, the jocks, the headbangers, the skaters, the stoners {wow, I think I'm dating myself!} My point is, the conference is full of all types of bloggers with many different passions and I believe, that's what makes it special.  We all have our strengths and weakness and to be able to share our work with each other only builds our community even stronger.

EVO has several different types of classes and workshops.  I tend to stick with the foodie side of things because I love it for one, but I also feel what I learn in the food photography sessions translates really well into my specific kind of photography.  Photographing a craft project isn't too different from photographing a recipe. I went to several hands on workshops this year and I'm not going to bore you with a run down of all of them, I'm just going to give you a little taste of my favorite one.

My very first workshop at EVO this year rocked my world!  I've had a blog crush on the White on Rice Couple for some time, but to have the opportunity to have an intimate workshop with them was a dream come true.

Diane Cu from White on Rice and Heather Thoming from WhipperBerry
We started the workshop that was sponsored by Truvia with an amazing lunch at the top of the mountain at the Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah.

After lunch we learned about all the fun stuff that you can do with Truvia's new Baking Blend and had a ball making Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies using the new Truvia Baking Blend… they turned out great by the way.

After the baking class we headed right into the food styling an photography class with Todd and Diane from White on Rice.  This was my FAVORITE part.  I could sit and listen to them teach for days and not get bored, They have a sneaky way of teaching you not only about working with food and photography, but about life! They have such talent and are so wonderful to share their talents unselfishly.

The conference was packed full of fabulous classes, workshops, speakers and get togethers that were fun, informative and life changing in some cases.  I HIGHLY recommend EVO'13 if you are looking for a great conference to attend next year.

What's a blog conference without a little silliness…

Here's sweet Desiree from The 36th Avenue and Kristyn from Lil'Luna having fun playing with their cameras when we were supposed to be mixing up cookies.  LOVE those girls!!

Our Digs with Links Luxury Rentals

This year instead of staying at The Canyons {which is lovely, by the way} I had the opportunity to bunk with some of my favorite people at a luxury penthouse condo owned by Links Luxury Rentals. This place was swank!!

My favorite Finds from CHA 2012

0 · Feb 7, 2012 · 4 Comments

I am officially ruined! This year was my first venture to CHA {the Craft & Hobby Association} tradeshow in Anaheim, CA… Boy was I smitten. Now, I've been to many different types of trade shows, some that were more interesting than others.  When I walked into CHA I felt that I had found my place in this world. This was the trade show that spoke my language… The language of creativity! I wish I could share everything but here are a couple goodies that are up and coming…

Lifestyle Crafts

Start saving your pennies, Lifestyle crafts has all kinds of fun goodies that they are getting ready to release. The Evolution is the follow-up to the ever popular Epic tool and I can't wait until they release that later this spring.

Along with the new Evolution Lifestyle Crafts is releasing a new magnetic cutting tool with an improved cutting mat.  I can't even decide which one I am most excited for… The magnetic board is genius and I can't wait to give it a go.  We won't have to worry about our dies slipping anymore and wasting paper with a partially cut image! The new cutting mat is stronger and thicker so no more warping when you run it through the machine, YAY!! And I'm super excited for the new EVOLUTION!!

Lion Brand Yarn

I have many craft obsessions one of them being with yarn.  I love to crochet, I haven't done much on WhipperBerry, but it is one of my favorite hobbies.  I also love to use yarn when I craft, I love the colors and textures and how just a piece of yarn can had such dimension to a project.  I also tend to hoard yarn like crazy.  My favorite new line of yarn comes from the ever popular Martha Stewart via Lion Brand Yarn…

Silhouette

Silhouette is always a fan favorite and at CHA it was no different.  They had people lining up down the eisles to have a crack at dolling up their very own Silhouette bag with the heat transfer material.  Everyone loved it!

I can't wait until they release their new 12×24 cutting mat sometime this spring.  I promise you guys will be the first to know when that little goodie is up for grabs!

Now I'm left full of anticipation waiting for the release of all these fun goodies.  I go to the craft store now and I can't help but get excited about all of the fun items that are getting ready to hit the store shelves!!

Playtime

Now CHA is not all business.  It's a great time to get together with great friends and spend some much needed time together.  To start off the weekend we headed to Disneyland with a small group and had a MAGICAL time! We were celebrating Tauni's birthday…

From left to right, Mique from 30 Handmade Days, Steph from Somewhat Simple, Jen from Tatertots & Jell-o, Marie from Make & Takes, Kami from No Biggie, Heather from Dollar Store Crafts, Lara from Less Cake More Frosting, ME & Tauni from the Snap Conference!

We had a ball getting reacquainted over a handful of dinners and parties…

Beckie from Infarrantly Creative, Linda from Craftaholics Anonymous, Steph from Somewhat Simple, Yes, I'm the dork with the closed eyes, Kristyn from Lil' Luna and Jamielyn from I Heart Naptime.

We had fun getting to know crafting celebrities. Kristyn and I had the chance to meet Vanna White from Wheel of Fortune. She has her own line of yarn through Lion Brand and We had a ball at the Plaid booth with Cathie and Steve from Creative Juice on HGTV. They have a new line of craft products coming out soon!

Yours truly, Kristyn Lil' Luna, Cathie, Steve, Heidi from Sew Craft Create, Jamielyn from I Heart Naptime & Linda from Craftaholics Anonymous.

And of course if you are spending anytime with Lara from Less Cake More Frosting… We have to do a little more Disney shopping and goofing around…

It's a MUST!!  All in all, I had a ball at CHA and can't wait to go again next year!!

A Magical Day at Scentsy

0 · Oct 20, 2011 · 5 Comments

I want you all to think back…

Think back to your favorite smell memory.  We all have them. It may be your grandmother baking snickerdoodles in the kitchen or an old boy friends favorite cologne.  Some of my favorite smell memories come from my grandparents avocado ranch in southern California. They had all kinds of fabulous fragrance opportunities, eucalyptus trees, fabulous floral concoctions and the citrus… oh the citrus! As a little girl I loved walking through their citrus grove taking in all of the lovely scents.  Fast forward a few years…

I was one of the lucky handful of bloggers invited to Meridian, Idaho to enjoy a fabulous Day at Scentsy.  I was thrilled!!  I traveled up to Boise from Las Vegas and had the fun opportunity to stay at the swank Hotel 43, beautiful by the way.

As I walked the halls in the stylish hotel to my room after all of the joys of traveling, ready to put my feet up. I opened my door to my hotel room and  walked right into heaven.  One of my favorite scent memories… Sunkissed Citrus!! I was right back in my Grandparent's citrus groove.  That my friends is the MAGIC of Scentsy!!

Boy I tell you, that started the whole trip of with FIREWORKS!!
