Creative Flashcard Design Ideas | For Students and Kids

26 · Jun 27, 2013 · 12 Comments

Looking for creative flashcard design ideas? I think you’re going to love these! This post was originally created back in 2013 but has been updated some now. These flashcards were for my kids when they were really young but would be great for students as well. These were so much fun to make.

So, it’s that time… Gage is three… Time to work on mastering his letters. With the girls home for the summer, I thought this would be a great time to make some Alphabet Flash Cards for the girls to play school with. That way Gage will get excited about learning. My first thought was… Those Project Life cards are PERFECT for making flash cards. So many great colors and patterns, with a little creativity these cards can transform a stack of photos into a quick meaningful memory book but… What if you just want to craft with your Project life kit? I took some cards from my Midnight Kit and turned them into some amazing flash cards…

Alphabet Flash Cards with Project Life 2

How to Make These Flashcards

Sometimes you have leftover cards or maybe you just want to use these amazing kits to create with, no matter… Project Life is getting easier and easier to find. The cool thing is that if you don’t have some Project Life cards on hand, you don’t need to worry!  Project Life products are now available at several different retailers here in the United States, Canada, Australia, and many other countries. I found my Midnight core kit at my local Hobby Lobby here in Lincoln but you can also find them at Michaels, Craft Warehouse, Beverly’s Fabrics & Archivers. Not to mention a whole bunch of smaller craft and scrapbook supply stores. You can also find Project Life online at Two Peas in a Bucket & Scrapbooks.com.

Crafting with Project Life and WhipperBerry

I thought this kit would look great for some flashcards for a little boy…

I took out my Silhouette CAMEO and my trusty glue stick and went to town…

It was just so slick… I could easily coordinate the colors and patterns to create this fun set for Gage.

This is a perfect starting point for him. Next, I am going to add sight words onto the ring of cards and use the letter cards at dividers.  It will be great… The girls can play school with him and help him learn his letters. Total score for the summer downtime when the girls are home and Gage is going to love it!

Other Creative Flashcard Design Ideas to Try

If you’re looking for other flashcard ideas to help out in the classroom or at home, you might like these next three. The first section of this post was how to be creative and make your own cards that look great. Below are some other Flashcards you can buy and make them look nice yourself.

These Assorted Blank Flash Cards

These assorted blank flashcards would be great for you to make your own flashcards with. The colors are nice and the texture is just right. You can get a large pack of 1,000 for a very good price.

These Thick Number and Letters Cards

These cards are great for younger students. You can play games with these cards like the jump game. You call out a letter or a number and have the students jump from one card to the next. This is a great way to introduce physical activity into learning and make the games fun for the kids. Give them a try!

What have you made with your Project Life cards? Do you only use them for your memory books or do you think outside the box?

4th of July printable club

Banners and buntings are still quite on trend. This "Let Freedom Ring" banner that I created will easily dress-up your holiday decor and it's so easy to make.

Let Freedom Ring Banner from WhipperBerry

First, all you need to do is download the printables from the box below.

Next, all you need to do is cut out each section of the banner. Find some twine, yarn or ribbon to attach the letters to. Take a glue stick and add a layer of glue to one side of the flag, place on the ribbon or twine and then fold over to secure the flag to the twine. Repeat with each letter. If you would like more flags for your banner, just print more letters and use the back side of the flag.

Dear Lizzy 5th & Frolic // Giveaway

0 · Mar 13, 2013 · 96 Comments

Dear Lizzy Giveaway // What girl doesn't love a shinny new toy to play with? Better yet, new craft supplies to tinker with? I know this girl does. Not too long ago, I was given the opportunity to play with the new 5th & Frolic line from Dear Lizzy at American Crafts and I was thrilled.  I had a chance to meet Elizabeth Kartchner, the talented designer and creator of Dear Lizzy, last year at SNAP and immediately fell in love with her style. She is one talented lady for sure! I decided I was going to make some new room decor for my daughter Emily's room with her new 5th & Frolic line…

crafting with Dear Lizzy, Fifth & Frolic and WhipperBerry

Supplies

  • Old frames
  • Krylon spray paint in Watermelon
  • 1-2 pieces of vellum or tracing paper
  • Dear Lizzy paper pack
  • Dear Lizzy tags
  • Dear Lizzy decorative brads
  • Dear Lizzy paper garland
  • Dear Lizzy burlap bows
  • Dear Lizzy glitter ribbon
  • Mod Podge
  • Glue Dots

Instructions

This project was sooooo easy! Emily and I found some fun room decor pieces at Target in their Valentine's Day clearance section last month…

target frame transformation

I loved the shape of the pieces, but didn't love the whole motif. I knew with a little spray paint and some fun design elements these little goodies could be transformed into something really fun, so I stashed them away waiting for the perfect project. Along came Dear Lizzy, and knew it was a match made in heaven.

I spray painted the frames with the Krylon Watermelon gloss and then let it sit over night to cure. The next day I traced the raised elements of the frames using some vellum and cut the templates out. I then used the templates to cut out my paper that I would then decoupage onto the frames with Mod Podge. A little trick when you are decoupaging… lightly wet the paper you are using with water before you add the Mod Podge. You won't have any issues with air bubbles if you do that.

Once the Mod Podge was dry, Emily and I set to work decorating her frames. We had so many fun options to choose from…

Dear Lizzy and Fifth & Frolic

Tags, brads, glitter tape, burlap bows… So many fun things to choose from. Our favorite was the paper garland. It was so cool how you could magically pull the garland out of the paper and not have to sit for hours cutting little triangles and sewing them together.  LOVED IT!!

design elements from Dear Lizzy

Emily and I had a ball! This whole project took about and hour once the spray paint was cured. What made it so easy were the stylish papers and design elements from Dear Lizzy's 5th and Frolic line. Everything looks stunning together, so it was impossible to go wrong. The only thing that made me a little sad were the other fun goodies we didn't get to add to our project. Here are a few more of my favorites..

dear lizzy stamps

I can't wait to play around with the stamps and the Dear Lizzy day book. The line is truly a joy to work with.

Want to play with some Dear Lizzy 5th and frolic of your very own? It's available at American Crafts now, or from JoAnn Fabric & Craft stores nationwide on March 17th. BUT… you could also win a $50 prize pack here on WhipperBerry from American Crafts!!

Limited Edition Silhouette Advent Calendar

1 · Nov 20, 2012 · 3 Comments

I am loving Silhouette’s tradition of creating a fun new advent calendar each year.  Here is a link to last year’s advent calendar that I just adore and this year’s calendar is just fabulous!

Silhouette Advent Calendar from WhipperBerry with design elements by rhonna designs

It takes me back to my very first guest post on Tatertots & Jell-o back when I was a brand new blogger (and my photo skills were a little lacking.) Although this one was MUCH easier to create!

First you need to RUN and grab your LIMITED EDITION Silhouette Advent Calendar Kit. These babies sell-out quick, so don’t diddle-doddle.

The frame in the kit is white and I decided I wanted to paint mine red to match my holiday décor…

Silhouette Advent Calendar 014

I busted out the ole’ Krylon Cherry Red and went to work transforming the frame from white to red. While the paint was drying, I started working on the cute little envelopes for the calendar.  I decided to create a fun hybrid version of the calendar by using Rhonna Design’s new Merry Christmas Collection. This is a fun modern add-on to the Rhonna’s Christmas Junque kit from last year. I thought they would look fabulous on my advent calendar for this year.

Did you know that you can design something in the Silhouette Studio and print your design, then cut it out with either your CAMEO or your new Portrait? I will have a tutorial on how to do that sometime next week.  It’s super easy. Just look how awesome they turn out…
