Rebecca Page Pattern Reviews – Maybe They Just Don’t Cut It

2 · Aug 12, 2022 · Leave a Comment

Rebecca Page, the person, seems to be a good person overall. But, the business and the customer service leave a lot to be desired. Read the rest of this article to find out why and to see where you should sign up instead of at RebeccaPage.

What is Rebecca Page?

Rebecca Page is a designer/craft blogger who has had a lifelong passion for sewing. In fact, she tells the story on her website of being an 8-year-old little girl who dreamed of sewing her own wedding dress someday. Now, her online business features sewing and other crafting patterns, tutorials and classes, and a monthly subscription service for her sewing patterns.

On the Rebecca Page website, you’ll find links to sewing patterns, crochet patterns, craft ideas, tutorials and classes, blog articles, and shopping links for fabric and notions. Also on her website is an option to subscribe to her patterns, so you’ll have access to one free pattern each month.

If you’re short on time I’ll say this…

I would skip Rebecca-Page’s subscription. I’ve written reviews of other pattern sites and schools that I like much better. You can find one of those reviews here.

What’s Included In A Rebecca Page Subscription?

When you subscribe to Rebecca Page’s Sewing Patterns, you get one “pattern credit” each month. One “pattern credit” allows you to purchase and download any pattern from the website. New patterns are released each month, but if the new releases aren’t appealing you can choose from any sewing pattern available. If you don’t want to purchase any patterns in a given month, you just save your credits. They’ll remain in your account for 365 days from when you receive them.

Home Much Does A Rebecca Page Subscription Cost?

There are three price options for a subscription to Rebecca Page Sewing Patterns.

The monthly option is $10 a month, and it is automatically rebilled on a monthly basis. With this option, you are paying $10 for one “pattern credit” a month; essentially this means you’re paying $10 per pattern. If you decide not to continue the subscription, you can cancel at any time.

The six-month option is $48, and is automatically rebilled every 6 months. This price works out to paying just $8 per month, or $8 for each pattern. This option also allows you to cancel at any time before the end of your billing cycle.

The twelve-month option is $78, and is automatically rebilled every 12 months. This price is equal to paying $6.50 each month, or $6.50 for each sewing pattern. Like the other subscription options, you can cancel at any time. The price of $6.50 for a sewing pattern is a great value, but definitely browse through the pattern selections to see if Rebecca Page’s style is right for you before committing to this plan.

If you decide to cancel your subscription, it can be done at any time before your next billing cycle. If you have a 6-month or 12-month subscription, they do not issue refunds for unused subscription time or any unused pattern credits you haven’t spent. Any unused pattern credits will remain in your account until you use them, or until they expire.

Rebecca Page Patterns

Rebecca Page has sewing patterns primarily for women’s clothing. Her styles are very feminine, featuring flowing styles accented with ruffles and other “girly” design touches. Most of the clothing designs are more suited to casual and “weekend wear”, so if you are looking for patterns for office attire or to build a “professional capsule wardrobe” you might not find as many styles that appeal to you. Many of the designs seem to be styled for younger women, so a more mature woman might not find as many appealing patterns.

The women’s clothing patterns from Rebecca Page are definitely inclusive to a variety of body types, with many styles having a fit range from XXS to 5XL. She has also designed patterns for little girls that match some of her women’s clothing styles, making for adorable  “Mommy and Me” outfit options. There are even doll clothes patterns to match some outfits!

There is also a section of sewing patterns that are suitable for maternity and nursing clothing. This is a niche that many sewing pattern subscription services don’t always pay attention to.

In addition to the women’s clothing patterns, which are definitely the majority, there are numerous patterns for children (mostly girls) and men’s clothing available also.

You’ll find sewing patterns from Rebeca Page for more than clothing. There are also patterns for accessories like tote bags and pouches. There are also patterns to create home decor items and soft children’s toys.

Rebecca Page Classes and Tutorials

Rebecca Page has an extensive amount of video classes and tutorials available on her website. These are not included with a subscription, but most of them are reasonably priced. You can complete them on your own time, at your own pace, and rewatch them as much as you’d like.

There are also video sew-along tutorials for many of her clothing patterns. The sew-alongs are free; you’ll just need to purchase her pattern to go with it. If you are a beginner at sewing, it might be useful to watch a sew-along video before buying a particular pattern, just to see if you think it’s within your range of expertise. When you sign up for a sew-along tutorial, you’ll also be invited to join the private Sew-Along Facebook group.

Is A Subscription To Rebecca Page Patterns Right For You?

Now that we’ve described most of what you will find on Rebecca Page’s website, are you still trying to decide if you should get a pattern subscription? Here are some things to consider.

Rebecca Page sewing patterns are good quality and come in a wide range of sizes. As mentioned earlier in this article, her women’s clothing designs are very feminine and youthful. They’re very size-inclusive, and reviews online are quite favorable. However, before committing to a subscription, browse through the patterns and see if her designs are something you or your family members would enjoy wearing.

Some of her sewing patterns for accessories, such as tote bags and zippered pouches, are cute, but very similar patterns can be found online for free from various crafting websites.

Other than the private Facebook group, there is no online social community for Rebecca Page subscribers. Facebook groups can be fun, but it would be nice to have a social community right on her webpage, similar to what other sewing pattern websites have done.

If you’d like to try a Rebecca Page sewing pattern, you don’t need to sign up for a subscription. You can directly buy any of the patterns on her website. The retail prices range from $10.50 to $16.50. You don’t have to be a subscriber to buy any of her online classes or download the sew-along tutorials, either.

One possible downside to purchasing Rebecca Page sewing patterns (or any online sewing patterns for that matter) is that you’ll need access to a printer for your pattern. Once you buy a pattern, you’ll receive a digital file to download, which you’ll then need to print and piece together to use.

Another downside to any sewing pattern subscription is that you end up buying multiple patterns from one single designer. It limits the variety of your wardrobe pieces.

While Rebecca Page designs are very pretty, overall they might not be “right” if you’re wanting to sew a wardrobe of professional/business attire.

Before joining any pattern subscription service, you should decide if you’ll wear numerous clothing items from that designer, especially when the designer has a distinctive style. For more variety in your wardrobe items, and for the ease of not having to print patterns yourself, Joann Fabrics has a large selection of patterns from long-established companies, such as Butterick and McCall’s. Joann Fabrics also has a large selection of online and in-person classes at very affordable prices.

IndieStitch Review | Is it Worth the Cost?

0 · Jul 31, 2022 · Leave a Comment

What Is IndieStitch?

IndieStitch is a fun subscription service for anyone who likes to sew, or who wants to learn new sewing techniques and patterns. The company was started by a woman who loves to sew but realized she enjoyed her hobby much more when she had all the necessary materials at hand; ready to begin a project.

Each month, IndieStitch subscribers receive a box with a new women’s clothing sewing pattern and all needed sewing supplies. Subscribers get a chance to review the pattern and fabric choices for each month before they are mailed out. After reviewing and confirming their fabric preferences, they will receive a box in the mail with everything needed to sew the project for that month. You literally could sit down at your sewing table and get started as soon as you open the box!

Get Started With IndieStitch

Of course, everyone has different tastes and it’s no guarantee that every pattern or included fabric will appeal to everyone. For that reason, if you don’t happen to like the pattern or any of the fabric choices for a particular month, you can just skip that box. That way, you won’t waste time or materials making something that doesn’t appeal to you.

The patterns from IndieStitch are usually for basic women’s wardrobe items that will easily suit anyone’s style. Past boxes have included patterns for skirts, dresses, buttoned shirts, tank tops, t-shirts, pants, pajamas, and more. Since a digital copy of the pattern is included as well as a printed copy, you’ll be able to make your favorite projects many times over.

Before the kits are mailed each month, subscribers will get the chance to review several fabric choices to use. You won’t have to worry about making a clothing item in a color or pattern that might not be flattering to you.  IndieStitch’s patterns are also very inclusive. The patterns are available in a wide range of sizes because people come in a wide range of sizes!

What Is Included in an IndieStitch Box?

In each IndieStitch monthly box, subscribers receive:

  • a digital copy of the pattern, direct from the designer
  • a full-size printout of the pattern, ready to cut
  • the chosen fabric for the project
  • coordinating thread and notions
  • and a few fun surprises!

You will literally have everything ready to begin sewing as soon as you unpack the box. How many times have you wanted to start a sewing project, but procrastinated because you didn’t feel like going to the fabric store? Or, have you been partway through a project and suddenly realized there was some other notion you didn’t have in your supplies? Because the IndieStitch box contains everything you’ll need, you won’t need to make a last-minute run to the fabric store for anything at all. This is so convenient! It’s easier to be motivated to start a project when you have everything provided for you.

How Much Does An IndieStitch Subscription Cost?

IndieStitch has three different subscription price options. The flexibility of these price options means that there is a subscription choice to meet just about any budget and time consideration.

If you want to pay on a month-to-month basis, with no long-term contract, the cost is $59.95 per month. The shipping cost is only $5.00. Billing is done monthly. There is no commitment to this option, and you can cancel it any time you want.  This is a good choice if you just want to try a box for one or two months to see if an IndieStitch subscription is something you’ll enjoy. Keep in mind that the subscription does become more affordable if you sign up for a six or twelve-month contract.

A six-month subscription to IndiStitch is $27.47 for the first box, then $54.95 per month for the remaining five months. That works out to the first box is half price! Shipping is also $5.00, and billing occurs monthly. According to their website, this is IndieStitch’s most popular subscription option.  If you’re confident you’ll enjoy the subscription but aren’t sure if you can make use of a 12-month contract, this is probably your best choice.

The 12-month IndieStitch subscription costs $24.97 for the first box, then $49.95 per month for the remainder of the contract. Like the other options, the shipping cost is only $5.00, and the cost is billed each month. This option is great if you know you’ll enjoy sewing throughout the year, and this is the best value per box.

In addition to the subscription options, there is an option to send a special IndieStitch gift subscription to someone who would enjoy it. Gift subscriptions are available for one, three, or six-month lengths. While the price for a gift subscription isn’t quite as good a value as a regular subscription, this is a fun, unique gift idea for your creative hard-to-buy-for loved ones.

Is IndieStitch Good For Beginners at Sewing?

Most IndieStitch patterns are described as being good for beginner/intermediate sewers.  There is an assumption that anyone ordering their sewing kits has some very basic sewing knowledge and is comfortable using a sewing machine. If you’re a beginner who wants to learn new skills and explore new projects, IndieStitch could be a good choice for you. Teenage or even preteen girls might enjoy IndieStitch as an easy and fun way to learn how to make their own clothes. The patterns and accessories are all supplied, which makes any project less intimidating to tackle.

In addition to providing fun, good-quality crafting supplies, IndieStitch has a great private online community where members can ask questions and share sewing tips with each other. Members also have access to an online monthly “sew along” video for each current project. If you are a beginner who learns best through visual instruction, these videos are a great way to improve your skills.

Is IndieStitch A Good Value?

Perhaps one of the best indicators of IndieStitch being a good value is the convenience of having all your needed supplies readily available. Since you’ll have everything necessary to begin sewing, you’ll save time (as well as money) by not having to make a trip to a fabric store for anything.

Get Started With IndieStitch

Not only does IndieStitch send its subscribers a complete sewing project kit each month, but it also provides a fun online community and instruction videos. The included digital copies of all patterns mean that you can make your favorite projects many times, customizing them to suit your style. The fabrics sent in each IndieStitch box are very good quality, as are all the included accessories. Any piece of clothing made from these kits should be fairly durable and long-lasting.  The price of a subscription box each month compares favorably to what one would spend if you purchased everything included individually, and access to the online community and instructional videos is like getting sewing instruction included, too.

An IndieStitch subscription is a good value for anyone who enjoys sewing, whether you’re a beginner looking to improve your skills or a more experienced sewer who enjoys simple but useful projects. Having the option to choose from several fabrics each month, as well as being able to skip any month, helps ensure that you won’t be paying for sewing kits that you won’t like. IndieStitch is definitely a quality subscription service that is worth trying out.

Evelyn Wood’s Vintage Sewing School Review – Is it Worth It?

24 · Jul 9, 2022 · Leave a Comment

I signed up for Vintage Sewing School by Evelyn Wood a few months ago. I loved her YouTube videos and wanted to get more specific instructions. There are a lot of good reviews online but I don’t usually trust those. If you know me then you know I like reviewing things myself and getting my own experience to share with you.

So the big question is if Vintage Sewing School is worth it? I’m going to share my honest reviews of it here in this post. Some of the other Vintage Sewing School reviews online are so good that they seem to be fake but after checking it out myself I now think they’re real. It’s so hard to trust things online these days.

If you’re short on time I’ll give you the final verdict here of this Vintage Sewing School review here…

I strongly believe that paid training and content for sewing is the way to go. You get so much more detail from creators and teachers when you pay for the content. I have reviewed other online sewing schools and I have to say that I like Vintage Sewing School… but I like Craftsy better. If you are here to make a quick decision then just sign up for Craftsy AND Vintage Sewing School. Evelyn is an absolute gem. Her courses are very easy to follow and her personality draws you in. She has formal training in sewing unlike some of the other sewists that are teaching online.

How Much Does Vintage Sewing School Cost?

The Vintage Sewing Membership costs $19 per month. This is a reasonable price to pay for an online sewing school in my opinion. This is in line with all of the other sewing schools online. The big difference for me with Vintage Sewing school is that it’s worth more than what she charges.

Other schools charge about the same price but their lessons are much quicker and don’t explain things as in-depth.

Evelyn Wood’s Vintage Sewing School Courses and Projects

I loved her courses. Some of her videos can get a little bit long-winded if you’re not a beginner. You can skip through some of the sections if you already know the terminology.

The projects she does are a lot of fun. You can see that there’s a difference between the free YouTube videos and the videos inside the membership. She really does pay attention to all the details.

Evelyn said in one of her videos that the overall goal was to be able to sew without instructions or follow-alongs. This is what it’s all about.

Something else I find nice is that Vintage Sewing School has a focus on sustainability. Other sewing schools that I’ve joined didn’t have this as a focus at all (with the exception of Craftsy).

Vintage Sewing School Coupons and Discounts

I sent an email to Evelyn and her customer service responded quickly to say that they didn’t currently have any coupon codes. Don’t let that stop you though. She does have a free beginners course that would be an amazing place to start if you’re new. If you’re not new to sewing then you can go straight for a paid program. Some things really are worth paying for!

Vintage Sewing School Customer Service

Vintage Sewing School is a big program with a lot of members. With that said, I think their customer service is amazing. I’m skeptical if it’s actually Evelyn sending emails or not because there are so many members that I don’t think she would have time. It still feels personal and they solve any issues very quickly though. I was impressed.

Overall Conclusion for Vintage Sewing School

I say you should definitely sign up for the free trial to see for yourself if you’re a beginner. If you’re not a beginner then go straight for the gold which is the full membership!

Evelyn seems to be a genuine person and I love her fun personality.

Her teaching skills are great. She doesn’t have a shady background like other sewing schools (not to mention names but you may have heard about the other people doing bad business). Give Evelyn a chance and I think you’ll come to the same conclusion.

This wraps up the Vintage Sewing School review. I hope this has been helpful for you! Post your thoughts in the comments!

Mimi G’s Sew It Academy Review – Is it Worth It?

12 · Jun 22, 2022 · 3 Comments

I signed up for Sew it Academy by Mimi G a few months ago. I found a lot of mixed reviews online so I wanted to try it myself. If you know me well enough, you know that I like to try things out myself and share it with you!

So, is Sew It Academy worth it? I’m going to share my honest review of Sew it Academy here in this post. Some of the other Sew It Academy reviews online seem to be fake. I think this is because they are using affiliate links to promote it so they give it a good rating so they can get paid for the review.

If you’re short on time I’ll give you the final verdict here…

I strongly believe that paid training and content for sewing is the way to go. You get so much more detail from creators and teachers when you pay for the content. With that said, there are definitely better online sewing schools than Sew it Academy for the money. For example, I created a Craftsy review that you can read and see why I like it better.  Read until the end to see why and which sewing schools might be of better value.

Get Craftsy Now

How Much is Sew It Academy?

Sew it Academy is $17.97 per month for the full membership. I think this is a reasonable price to pay for a sewing school and it’s in line with the cost of other sewing schools. The only problem I have is that I don’t think it’s worth the cost. A better value would be Craftsy at $8.99 per month instead. Craftsy is even cheaper when you sign up for a year. You get so much more for the money. One good thing about Sew It Academy is that it has a free trial so you can see what you’re getting before you pay but I truly believe it’s not worth it. Mimi G seems to be more interested in being viewed as a great businesswoman instead of delivering a great product.

Get Craftsy Now

Sew It Academy Courses and Projects

The projects inside of SewIt Academy are good. I have been enjoying most of them because they’re fun and creative. However, I don’t really like the lessons. It seems like Mimi G, the owner, is more focused on marketing her program than she is on delivering good lessons.

While Sew It Academy is quite affordable, I am not that impressed with the overall quality of these lessons. I think she talks too quickly through skills and concepts that would take me more time to understand fully. You would think with such a successful business that she would put more focus and effort on covering things thoroughly.

The draping course is only a basic bodice. The entire tailoring series is only one hour long. Other sites like Craftsy have over 15 hours of lessons and content on these types of skills. This is the main place I think that Sew It Academy can improve.

If you can’t tell by now, I don’t think Sew it Academy is a great option. I’d strongly suggest getting a yearly membership elsewhere.

Get Craftsy Now

Sew It Academy Coupons and Discounts

I sent an email to Sew It Academy to tell them I was going to be writing a review and asked for a coupon code for you, my readers. No one emailed me back about this. I don’t think they do discounts or coupon codes but you can always get the free trial to see if you like it.

Sew It Academy Customer Service

I don’t have experience with their customer service as a client. I did send them emails asking about discount codes but no one emailed me back.

There aren’t any bad reviews online about their customer service but from my experience of sending 4 emails, I received no replies at all. This seems odd to me. Maybe it’s just Mimi G cutting another corner to make more money? I’m not sure but it hasn’t been a good experience for me.

Conclusion for This SewIt Academy Review

I say you can sign up for the free trial to see for yourself. If you already know a lot about sewing and just want some patterns and fun projects it would be fun for a few months. If you’re looking for in-depth tutorials and classes then I would choose another program instead.
