Little Bug Baby Shower | Design Elements

2 · Jun 26, 2012 · 18 Comments

I am quite literally bursting with joy… Sarah's 1st Baby girl was born bright and early on Monday morning. On her Daddy's birthday to be exact. She is beautiful and is a natural fit into the Nitta family.  I'm hoping I can share some photos soon of the beautiful little bug.  Sarah and I have shared a little of her room so far, the beautiful tree from Cherry Walls and a little sneak peek into Sarah's shower last week. Now that I am finally home from Haven, I just can't hold it in any longer… Here is the fun Little Bug Shower that I put together with my sweet friend Kristin for Sarah's little Love Bug and Cuddle Bug…

It all started with this post that I created not too long ago for Silhouette that I fell in love with…

In my silly mind I just adored my Cuddle Bug and Stink Bug onesies.  When Sarah found out that they were on the road for an adoption this was the first thing that popped into my mind when Kristin and I started talking baby showers. We thought it would be a fun, non-traditional baby shower for our fun, non-traditional friend!

Kristin designed the cutest invitation with two little bugs on it and that kicked off the event planning…

I created some fun utensil containers using the premium vinyl and my CAMEO from Silhouette using the same image that I used to create the onesies. Then I dipped dyed the basic paper plates in water and food coloring to create a simple water color ombre effect. I then stamped the plates with a fabulous stamp that I found on Etsy from a cute shop called Four Things by KKP…

Loren from Four Things was super sweet and created a custom stamp for me with two little bugs which was perfect for all kinds of things for the shower. I stamped the plates and really wanted to stamp some cups, but I just couldn't find the right cup for the job, oh well. I also created a Wishing Wheel for the shower using an old bike wheel…

Everyone tied tags that I found on Pick Your Plum, that were stamped with the cute little bugs at the bottom of the tag onto the wheel. We asked everyone to write down their wishes for the girls to share with Sarah & Jason. It' turned out so cute…

When we started planning I knew I wanted balloons, and not just any balloon… HUGE luscious balloons!! I found the colors that I was looking for at BalloonsFast.com and boy were they fun!

To dress-up the balloons I hand cut some crepe paper tassels and paired them with strips of a silver foil door curtain.  They were stunning!! I placed them on the walkway up to Kristin's house and then had them throughout the house as well.  They were so fun, and added a whimsical element to the shower. However… did you know that there is a national helium shortage? Yea, I didn't either!!  I'll tell you more about that tomorrow.

I also placed my favorite DREAM sign in the front yard to greet all of the guests. I thought it was appropriate since this has been a dream come true for Sarah and Jason.  If you haven't seen it yet you have to check out Sarah's video about her journey through weight gain, weight loss, infertility and her time on the Biggest Loser…

Now a new chapter in Sarah & Jason's life has begun.  Kristin penned a beautiful poem that we included with each invitation to tell the story of how their sweet little girls finally had a chance to come and join their family. Kristin then printed a large version and framed it for the shower…

Kristin and I hung a cute little clothes line to create a fun focal point for the party.  It was also a great area to collect the shower gifts…

I made two more "Love Bug" and "Cuddle Bug" onesies and then filled the rest of the line with cutie-patootie clothes that Sarah was then able to take home after the shower for her little bugs.

I wanted the shower to be a full sensory experience. Visually I used a playful citrus color palette that just popped when everyone walked into the room. I place fun vintage items in clusters around the party area to create fun design tidbits to take everyone back to a simple and carefree time in their lives…

I filled the room with my favorite CD by Mindy Gledhill called Anchor which was perfect for the feel for the party on my Swansea Beach Radio/ iPod dock from Anthropologie. I also transported people with their sense of smell by using my Scentsy warmer armed with my favorite scent, Sunkissed Citrus. The only sense left is taste, and I'm afraid I will have to share that with you later… This post is already FOREVER long!

So… what do you think so far? Was it crazy to have a "bug" theme for a shower for two little girls?

4th of July Party Favor |Guest Post

7 · Jun 26, 2012 · 10 Comments

One of the reasons I fell in love with blogging was the getting to know some amazing people in the blogging community.  I love how we can share our talents with each other and get to know new friends. Every once in a while I love to showcase someone that I have found via Friday Flair and today's the day.  I ADORE Camille from Makoodle. She ALWAYS has some fantastic goodies to share, today is no different…

**UPDATE**

I emailed Camille from Makoodle and she said she found the cool tubes at her local craft store, but you can order them from several sellers on Etsy.

Hello Whipperberry friends! I am Camille from Makoodle and I'm excited to share a 4th of July idea and free printable with you.

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. It is a day that the entire country throws a party and celebrates America. When I think of the 4th of July, I think of parades, barbeques, great food, family, and friends.

Patriotic Party Favor

I've seen these gumball tubes used as birthday party favors and thought it would be fun to make a patriotic party favor for America's birthday. After all, how can we throw a birthday party without a cute party favor?

When i first thought of "party favor" I thought chocolate. Who doesn't love to leave a party with chocolate? As I thought about it a little more and remembered how hot it gets in July, I decided I should pick something a little more heat friendly.

In addition to a great party favor, these red, white, and blue gumballs would be a great treat to give to your kids to enjoy during a Fourth of July parade.

Fourth of July Printable Tags

There are four different tag designs for you to use for your patriotic party favors. Download the free printable, then print it on card stock paper. Use a use a 2" circle or scallop craft punch to punch the design into a circle tag. Finally, use a paper punch to punch a hole in the top of the tag and string ribbon or bakers twine through the punched hole and tie it to your favor. You can also use these printable tags for cupcake toppers or anything else you want to give some extra Fourth of July flair.

We had a great photography and styling class with Layla & Kev from The Lettered Cottage and learned hands on, how to build furniture from Ms. Ana White, truly a highlight! Orange Blossom Shop | Giveaway

0 · Jun 19, 2012 · 15 Comments

To say that I am in love with the Orange Blossom Shop would be a gigantic understatement!! I have been in love with their work for some time now. Back in April we took a fun family vacation to the California coast and we took some fun pictures that I  just adore. I knew I just had to have one framed for my office, but it couldn't be just any frame.  It HAD to be an Orange Blossom Shop frame!!!

As luck would have it I had the fun opportunity to meet and hang out with Shauna & Courtney from Orange Blossom while we were at Snap! a few weeks later.  It was LOVE at first sight.  These girls are amazing and I am so impressed with everything that they create. Their designs are amazing and the work is superb!!

I thought it would be really fun to take the stylish numbers signs that I found at Farm House Antiques, and use them to create a gallery wall with the photograph I took of the kiddos. Each of the kiddos is holding their age for this year and it has become such a family treasure.  Here is how the gallery wall turned out…

I just LOVE how it!! We have our 2, 8, 11 & 15 for the kiddos ages plus I was able to put our families favorite number in there 22.  My birthday is this Friday, June 22, my Honey's birthday is October 22 and we were married on September 22… so 22 is kind of special to us.  Then I added the Eye Chart Calendar, also from Antique Farm House to the mix and it looks perfect! You know what REALLY makes it perfect is the Orange Blossom Frame!!

You need to check out the Orange Blossom Shop, they have all kinds of to die for frames big & small, plus a whole bunch of other goodies, signs, vinyl lettering, party supplies… all kinds of fun stuff.

These are the different frame shapes they have and below are the lovely colors that you have to choose from…

Aren't they just tasty? I would like to order one of each please… Courtney & Shauna would love to give one of you lucky guys a chance at one of their aaaamazing frame by offering a $50 gift certificate to one lucky WhipperBerry reader.  All you have to do in follow the directions in the Rafflecopter form below…
