Candy Corn Wreath

104 · Oct 23, 2011 · 14 Comments

Here's a post that I created for Shelley over at House of Smith's awhile ago.  I thought I would post it here just in case you missed it!

Happy Halloween {well, sort of.  We're close enough right?}  I am so excited to be guest posting today on House of Smiths!!  Truly, giddy with excitement to get to meet all of Shelley's friends!!  Let's get the introductions out of the way so we can move on to being great friends… I'm Heather from WhipperBerry!

I have to admit I have been one of those girls who really didn't get into Halloween in the past, I could take it or leave it and be totally fine.  This year however, I have fallen in LOVE all of the creative fun to be had with this holiday.  I know, I know… I'm not sure why it took so long.  Because I haven't been a huge fan, I don't have a  lot of Halloween decor.  This year I worked pretty hard to remedy that, in true WhipperBerry fashion.  Here is one of my FAVORITE projects that I thought I would share with you today!  My Candy Corn Wreath…

Isn't it FUN?!  Here is what you will need to do to make one of your very own…

~ One foam wreath form {mine is about 13 inches across}

~1/2 yard of muslin

~ 1/2 yard of orange canvas fabric

~1/2 yard of yellow canvas fabric

~1/2 yard of off white canvas fabric

~ 200 straight pins

~ Black ribbon

To begin, tear your muslin into long 4 inch wide strips and then wrap your foam wreath form…

Secure the muslin to the foam form with straight pins.  Next, you need to cut your canvas into ROUGHLY 4×4 inch squares.  Don't worry about exact measurements pretty close works perfect for this project.  Once you have your squares cut, start with the orange and  take one square and fold in half and then fold in half again.  Take a straight pin and pin it to the wreath form like this…

Continue to fill in the orange working them close together to give it a nice full effect.  Wimpy wreaths look sad, so don't be stingy!! Use the entire 1/2 a yard of orange at the bottom of the wreath….

Once you are done with the orange, start working on the yellow.  It works best if you split your squares in half and then you will have an equal amount on each side…

Now, you are in the home stretch… work in the off-white canvas and you are almost done…

Grab your ipod and a good audio book, or cue up your DVR… this is a simple and easy wreath that I promise with only take you a couple of hours.  I actually loved sitting there listening to my book while I made it {It was, "The Book Thief" just incase you were wondering.}  Once you are done, tie your black ribbon into a basic bow and pin to the top of the wreath and viola, you're finished.  You now have a simple and STUNNING Candy Corn wreath that all of your friends are going to LOVE!!!  Now that you have the basic idea down it's going to be so much fun making all kinds of canvas wreaths for all seasons.  I'm already working on  The Candy Cane wreath for Christmas!!! You'll have to stop by WhipperBerry and subscribe so that you don't miss that little beauty!!

A Magical Day at Scentsy

0 · Oct 20, 2011 · 5 Comments

I want you all to think back…

Think back to your favorite smell memory.  We all have them. It may be your grandmother baking snickerdoodles in the kitchen or an old boy friends favorite cologne.  Some of my favorite smell memories come from my grandparents avocado ranch in southern California. They had all kinds of fabulous fragrance opportunities, eucalyptus trees, fabulous floral concoctions and the citrus… oh the citrus! As a little girl I loved walking through their citrus grove taking in all of the lovely scents.  Fast forward a few years…

I was one of the lucky handful of bloggers invited to Meridian, Idaho to enjoy a fabulous Day at Scentsy.  I was thrilled!!  I traveled up to Boise from Las Vegas and had the fun opportunity to stay at the swank Hotel 43, beautiful by the way.

As I walked the halls in the stylish hotel to my room after all of the joys of traveling, ready to put my feet up. I opened my door to my hotel room and  walked right into heaven.  One of my favorite scent memories… Sunkissed Citrus!! I was right back in my Grandparent's citrus groove.  That my friends is the MAGIC of Scentsy!!

Boy I tell you, that started the whole trip of with FIREWORKS!!

This Giveaway is CLOSED

I have been so excited for this giveaway I am going to post it a little EARLY!!  I don't know about you but I am in love with all the fun things that you can create with words and beautiful topography, weathered wood and paint.  You can find all kinds of great signs all over Etsy that are created with vinyl, but… how about a HAND PAINTED sign?  I have been in LOVE with Barn Owl Primitives for some time and I was soooooo excited when this arrived in the mail the other day…

I turned into a giddy little girl when this brown paper package arrived all tied up with pretty ribbon.  Kristi and I had worked together on a fun sign and I couldn't wait to see it! It's a great new Family Rules sign with a fun little twist…

I decided that I wanted to add a pop of red to the sign to highlight one of the most important "rules."  Didn't it turn out aaaamazing!! I love the blue on the weathered white wood with the fun red Love One Another.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! Kristi is a true artisan and I am LOVING my "new" HAND PAINTED beautifully weathered sign.

Here are some more of the goodies that you can find at Barn Owl Primitives that I may need to add to my shopping list…
