Christmas Village Tree – Michaels Dream Tree Challenge

5 · Nov 14, 2016 · Leave a Comment

It’s my favorite time of the year… It’s time to starting thinking about CHRISTMAS!

77726_ms_mm_nov_onlineexperience

Don’t you just love going to your friend’s homes to check out their Christmas tree every year? I know I do!

It’s so fun to see everyone’s creativity and their take on this time honored tradition. Thanks to Michaels, we get to do that on a much bigger scale. Every year the Michaels Makers are challenged to create their own dream tree and you get to join in on all of the fun and take a peek at all of these fun creative trees.

First off, let’s talk trees… Michaels has their largest tree assortment this year, including colored and flocked trees. Check out all of their trees, ornaments and coordinating holiday décor on Michaels.com.

I have the 7.5 ft. Pre-Lit Jasper Cashmere Tree and we are in LOVE with it. It uses the innovate Quick Set™ technology that makes assembly SUPER EASY!

This year, I decided to go with a Christmas village theme for our tree…

WhipperBerry's Christmas Village Christmas Tree

I picture this as a little alpine village on the side of a mountain all snowy and white. Each little home lights up to give the village that cozy feeling of home.

Instead of going with traditional Christmas colors, I opted for more of a wine and pink for the accent colors, sticking mainly with snowy white as the primary color.

In the background of the tree, my talented daughter drew more of the village on our blackboard wall and topped that with the Christmas Star as a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. I LOVE how it turned out.

{Ignore the weird honey oak trim in the back, we’re still in a rental… Boo!}

Little Alpine towns also have little woodland creatures that are hidden among the forrest and I made sure to include our little friends.

I tucked them more inside the tree to add a little extra charm to the scene. We all know that they like to stay hidden away from the hustle and bustle of town. That’s our family’s favorite part, all of the hidden animals peeking through.

I found these gorgeous light-up stars and the marquee snowflake to add to the scene.

One little trick that I have is to hot glue your basic ball ornaments to gather into clusters. That gives your tree a more polished, professional  look.

Another thing I did was to take a great,  large basket/chest from Michaels and cover it with yarn pom-poms.

I had so much fun sitting with my girls, watching The Holiday making poms together!

Fall Pumpkin Home Decor

Happy SEPTEMBER!! We’re heading into my favorite time of year… FALL!

I tend to rush fall a bit because I love it so much. I love the crisp air, the leaves getting ready to change, I love to decorate my home for fall! I may not be all that into PSL (Pumpkin Spice Lattes) but I LOVE to decorate with pumpkins.

I’m also a fan of the heirloom variety pumpkins that aren’t your traditional jack-o-latern pumpkins and I LOVE that Michaels has both options to choose from when pumpkin season rolls around.

To kick off fall in your own home, visit Michaels.com and check out the variety of craft pumpkins available – there is every color, shape and size you could ever want! There are tons of ways to DIY your own craft pumpkin for your home, a party or even as a gift.

I decided that I wanted to pull together some simple decor that literally took just a few minutes to throw together. Not everyone has hours to invest into a project most of the time. I ran to Michaels and grabbed some pumpkins that I liked, a metal basket and some artificial flowers. Then I did something a little tricky, I placed a glass jar into the basket and arranged my flowers the way I wanted them…

Then I arranged my pumpkins in the basket and voilá… I have a simple yet fabulous fall decor that took just minutes to pull together.

Summer Crafting with the Kids

+ This Summer Crafting with the Kids post brought to you by Michaels +

Easy-DIY-Pom-Poms--2

You guys… Summer is almost here!!

No more school!

No more car pool!

No more early mornings!

Well at least for a couple of months anyway. Now the challenge is how to entertain the family during the fun, lazy days of summer. Did you know that Michaels has you covered, they offer free classes in their stores! You can try out a new craft skill for just the cost of supplies.

Just because school will be out for the summer, doesn’t mean that  learning stops.

You can sign your kiddos up for a class or you can take a little time for yourself and learn a new skill.

Another great way to explore your creativity is by trying out a craft kit. Michaels has everything from sewing kits to art kits and everything in between.

My daughter Emily and I decided it would be fun to take one of their kits for a test drive.

Easy-DIY-Pom-Poms--1

Emily picked the Craf-Tastic™ Pom Pom Kit, we’re kind of obsessed with pom poms here at our house. This kit was cool because it had the promise of teaching us how to make pom poms really quick. We were intrigued.

I’ve made all kinds of poms, but this was Emily’s first rodeo so this kit was perfect!

Easy-DIY-Pom-Poms--4

The directions were fantastic and Emily who is 11 easily figured everything out without any help from Mom.

We loved how the kit came with EVERYTHING you need for a fun afternoon of crafting and Emily loved that she could do it all on her own.

We decided that it would be fun to add some silly eyes onto the poms to create some little fuzzy friends…

This kit was worth every penny… Emily and I had a ball creating together without all the hassle of trying to pull together all the supplies on our own. Total summer win in my books!

Enjoy the Ride Marquee Sign for Mother’s Day

+  This Enjoy the Ride Marquee Sign for Mother’s Day post was brought to you by Michaels  +

Hey, hey… It’s time for this month’s Michaels Makers Challenge!

This months challenge is all about Mother’s Day.

28116_MS_MM_AprilChallenge_s

How fun is that?!

It’s crazy to think that I have been a Mom for 18 years now… gulp! Now that my girls are a little older it’s so fun to work on projects together.

I have been wanting to create some type of sign to remind our whole family to stop, take a step back and ENJOY THE RIDE.

Sometime our lives get so crazy, especially now that the kiddos are getting older and have crazy schedules themselves, we forget to find joy in the moment. The girls and I decided we wanted to create a marquee sign to put on our shelves in our kitchen to give us that simple reminder everyday.

If you know me, you know I have a love of marquee letters. I started out making my own, you can find that post HERE. Then my fabulous friend Heidi Swapp…

Hello-my-name-is-heidi-2

Took the marquee world by storm with her Marquee Love Letters.

I created this fun kitchen sign with her original Marquee Love…

Now Heidi has introduced a larger  12 inch Marquee Letters that exclusive at Michaels and I’ve fallen in love again!

Enjoy-the-Ride-Marquee-Sign-from-Heidi-Swapp-by-WhipperBerry-3

My girls and I decided they would be perfect for our Enjoy the Ride sign and set to work together to dress-up the letters.

We used Heidi Swapp Marquee Love Washi Tape…

And the coordinating paper to dress up the letters.

Enjoy-the-Ride-Marquee-Sign-from-Heidi-Swapp-by-WhipperBerry-5

It was so fun to work together with the girls to create this new masterpiece. With Heidi’s washi tape & paper, it’s super easy to add a little flair to the letters. Talk about an aaaamazing Mother’s Day gift!

A handmade gift from your kiddos is always fantastic no matter how simple it is. It really starts to get fun when you can work together with your kiddos to create a project together. We LOVED it!
