Life According to Me // Giveaway

0 · Jan 14, 2013 · 84 Comments

Life According to Me (a child's journal) Giveaway // Do you ever wish you could take a peak into your child's young mind and see what it is that makes them think, feel and act how they do? Do you sometimes worry that you're not communicating with them very well or that you might be missing a teachable moment to help them grow, feel safe, and feel loved?

Are you ready to spend time with them individually and no longer miss out on the details of their day?!?

I know parenting isn’t easy… but it is one of the most rewarding things any of us will ever be a part of! (So many ups & downs, am I right?!) I've shared plenty of fun activities on my blog that encourage us to spend time with our children, but the idea I am going to share with you today takes it even one step further.

"Life According to Me" is a darling child's journal written by Stephanie from Somewhat Simple that will help you capture their youth and give you an inside glimpse of your child's thoughts and feelings- all while having FUN!

It's more than a boring journal with lined pages- it is fun & interactive with 30 pages of daily prompts, fill-in-the-blanks, and spaces for kids to draw and doodle. If you can get your kid's creative juices flowing and open the door for communication, you'll catch a better glimpse of what is going on in their little brains.

Perfect for kids of all ages!

Older kids can write their thoughts, little kids can use the space to draw pictures or you can encourage them to do a combination of both!

One of the best features of this journal is the spot on each page for your child to write a letter to you and the space for your response.

{You'll love this amazing portal into your child’s mind!}

They write about ANYTHING they want – from funny things that happened at school, to questions about their science projects and information about their secret crush. Get ready to experience moments of their day that you would have missed and the small details of their lives you could have easily brushed aside. Your response will show your appreciation for them, to make sure they know that you love them. Validate their thoughts so they know they were heard and share bits of wisdom when a moment presents itself. These letters will create a place for you to communicate with each other frequently. Keep It Fun: You don't want this magic passageway to close up or disappear, so keep journal writing fun! Stephanie has the following suggestion that she implemented with her kids: "I decided I would let each of them pick one weeknight where they get to stay up 10-15 minutes passed bedtime and climb in my bed where we can write in our journals, together. It is amazing what a later bedtime does for a kid! They get to stay up while their siblings go to bed, and I get to spend some individual time with each of my kids learning more about them. It is a win-win!"

Luxe Business Cards from Moo.com // Giveaway

0 · Jan 9, 2013 · 82 Comments

WhipperBerry's New Luxe Business Cards from MOO.com // I am one of those girls that goes a little ga-ga when I see a company that has branded themselves really well. When I set out to rebrand WhipperBerry for 2013 I wanted to make sure that my new branding carried over not only on the blog but  throughout my digital and paper footprint. First, I selected some amazing design elements created by the talented Rhonna Farrer from Rhonna Designs and then went to work to create my new look. Once I figured out the overall design scheme, I knew that I wanted to create some amazing business cards for the 2013 blog conference season.

Luxe Business Cards by Moo

I was contacted by Moo.com to take their Luxe Business Cards for a test drive and to be completely honest, I wasn't too interested. I had ordered some business cards from Moo a few years ago and was not happy with how they had turned out. I actually ended up not using them at all and wasted a decent amount of money with the failed business cards. To be fair, I used my own design and it just didn't work at the size of the business card. I was disappointed that their quality control didn't contact me before printing to say that the images weren't going to work. So, when they asked if I would be interested in a review and almost said no, then I decided to give it another go to see how it went. I didn't let them know about my previous experience because I wanted to have a typical experience and I am thrilled to report the whole process was AMAZING!!

The Design Process with Moo

Moo has several types of business cards to choose from, but I wanted to try out the Luxe Cards. They are a rich, luxurious card that looks almost like a classic letterpress card and I thought it would look fantastic with my new look. I also decided to go the self-designed route again (gulp!) I created my business card design and submitted it for printing, hoping that everything would turn out alright. Much to my surprise,  I was contacted by a representative from Moo to let me know that the images weren't as crisp as they would like and then she guided me though the process of how to make them print quality for the cards. I LOVED her!! She didn't make me feel dumb, she kindly helped make sure that the cards turned out their very best. We actually emailed quite a bit and had a lovely e-chat. I couldn't help but smile when I opened my cards and there was a card inside the box with her photo and name on it, it was so nice to put a face to the wonderful lady who help make sure my business cards turned out the best that they can be!! Needless to say, my opinion of Moo.com has been changed forever, thanks to Doreen. Doreen, you're the BEST!!

Shipment of my Moo Cards

When I finalized my card design with Doreen, my cards were printed and shipped within three days. Seriously, I had them in hand within just a few days. Another plus!! I can't tell you how many times I've been chatting with someone at a blog conference and when we went to exchange cards and they sheepishly have to say… "I don't have any, my cards didn't arrive in time." What a bummer is that? No worries of that with Moo!!

When my shipment arrived, I was blown away. Check out the packaging…

How Moo ships your new business cards

How fancy is that? Seriously a wax seal? Nice touch Moo!! I felt like they were just as excited about my new cards as I was. There is nothing more disappointing that having your cards arrive from other companies in a crummy cheap box that hardly stands up to the rigors of shipping. It really makes you feel like they don't value your cards at all. That's not the case with Moo at all! I almost didn't want to open the box at all because it was so pretty, except for the fact that I REALLY wanted to see my new cards.  I wanted to see if they had turned out better than my first experience… I was blown away!!

My New Luxe Cards from Moo

You may not think that business cards are all that exciting, but I do. When I opened my lovely box of new cards, they took my breath away. They looked even better than I had imaged. Seriously… LOVE THEM!!

what your luxe business cards will look like

The Luxe business cards from Moo are made with the highest quality paper and have the look and feel of the best business cards out there. I know that when I hand out these cards, I am going to be putting my best foot forward. Why on earth would you spend all that time and energy on your business and go with a cut-rate printer to create your business branding? I know I never will again!! Moo has my heart forever!!

A Heart So Broken by Christene Houston // GIVEAWAY

0 · Jan 7, 2013 · 1 Comment

A Heart So Broken Giveaway // I am over the moon and tickled pink all at the same time today! My sweet friend Christene Houston has published her first novel and I'm so exited to introduce you guys to her and her fabulous book. It's true… Christene is one of my dearest friends, but I kid you not, I would promote this book even if she were a stranger on the street.  It's a fabulous fun read for these cold months while we are hibernating in our little nests.

Here is a little more about Christene and her book in her own words…

It’s one of those rare Vegas days when the rain is falling and everything feels cozy and warm inside. A fire is going in the fireplace, logs crackling, flames snapping, and I’m doing one of my favorite cold day things. I’m curled up with a book, enjoying the feeling of being cocooned away from the wintery blast. Do you love reading like I do? When we knew we would be losing Heather to Nebraska, we did what any good friends would do. We stockpiled our favorite books for such a cherished friend and sent her into negative degree weather knowing she could cuddle up with some warm Vegas love whenever she liked. Heather and I are big fans of this lovely pastime, though we enjoy different paths in both our general taste and methods of consumption. I’m a hands on, leafing-through-the-pages kind of girl, while Heather enjoys all mediums, with a special affection for audiobooks. Heather often reaches for gritty, true to life books while my feet are most often planted in the blossoms of romantic fiction.  It’s no big shock that when I decided to follow my passion for writing, it took me in just that direction. After an incredible journey, my debut novel, A Heart So Broken, is finally on cyber-shelves nationwide, available through both Amazon and BN.com. I am so thrilled to see my cover popping up in the most beautiful places!

A Heart So Broken is the story of 17-year-old Jenna Tucker who suddenly loses her father during his service in Iraq. Without his stabilizing influence, Jenna’s world tips out of control. She soon finds herself exiled to tiny West Junction for the summer, holding fast to her misery despite the tender care of her Aunt Lilly. When a vivid dream revives her spirits, Jenna is surprised to find handsome Cooper Turnage at every turn. The electric attraction between them is undeniable, but Cooper harbors a secret that will reopen tender wounds and force Jenna to decide between the comfort of bitterness and a chance to heal at last a heart so broken.

WhipperBerry is giving away a signed copy of A Heart So Broken to one fabulous reader and three digital copies of the book to three more readers!! The reviews have been stunning, and I can’t wait to add yours to the list. Follow the direction in the Rafflecopter box below to enter the giveaway…

Eat In with Castle Wood Lunch Meat // $100 Giveaway

0 · Dec 14, 2012 · 8 Comments

Life is crazy these days! The girls are all in three different schools, with three different sets of activities. The little guy and I are ALWAYS busy working on WhipperBerry at home. By the time Mike’s home from work dinner is the last thing I want to think about.  It’s always so tempting to just grab everyone and head off to one of our local restaurants, but that’s sooooo expensive. It’s fine a few times a month, but more than that the wallets really starts to feel the pinch. We MUST figure out how to make dinner fast and inexpensive at the same time… I was giving the opportunity to visit our local Sam’s Club this week to try out their Castle Wood deli section to create a sandwich for our family on the go.

Eat In with Castle Wood Lunchmeat

Yesterday was super busy.  I had a ton of work to do AND a whole bunch of Hales a.k.a. Lil’Whip friend’s were coming over after school. They all needed head shots for an audition next week for the school musical, and I offered to help them with that.

Needless to say, the schedule was tight, plus I had even more mouths to feed. I headed over to Sam’s Club and shopped for sandwich fixin’s for our crew. You can join me over at Google+ to follow along while I sign-up for a Sam’s Club membership and shop for our busy night.

Gage and I found all kinds of goodies for our busy dinner in the Castle Wood section. We finally decided on a few Castle Wood products for our sandwiches…

Castle Wood Lunch Meat  Castle Wood Cheese from Sam's Club

Then we headed home to put together our yummy dinner. Now, you may think sandwiches are boring, but they don’t have to be. I kept our sandwich simple, but it is FULL of flavor. The key is working with good, flavor packed ingredients.

sandwich incrediants for Castle Wood lunchmeat sandwich

I selected to use The Castle Wood Four Pepper Oven Roasted Turkey Breast along with the Castle Wood Pepper Jack.  Then I paired those two stars with a fabulous supporting cast of tomatoes, cucumber and hummus… Yes, hummus!  It’s a full flavor, less fat option to mayonnaise or Miracle Whip.

Recipe

2 slices of bread

1-2 T hummus

1-2 oz. Castle Wood Four Pepper Oven Roasted Turkey Breast

1-2 slices of Castle Wood Pepper Jack cheese

8-10 slices of cucumber

2-4 slices of tomato

Spread hummus on bread and then layer the turkey, cheese, cucumber and tomato.

Servings // 1

This sandwich is bursting with flavor and is perfect for those meals when you would like to save on time and money. With Castle Wood Lunch Meat Sam’s Club signature brand, you can create a fabulous sandwich for $1… Yep, that’s ONE DOLLAR!! You can’t get that at your local sandwich shop. This was perfect for our busy night of photos for all the high school kiddos. I made up a bunch of sandwiches, wrapped them in parchment paper to keep them fresh and served them with sweet potato chips and a couple of cookies and they were HAPPY and I was happy that I was able to feed the crowd without breaking the budget.
