How to Create Damage Free Holiday Decor

0 · Dec 6, 2015 · Leave a Comment

+ This How to Create a Damage Free Holiday Decor post is brought to you by the folks at Command™ Products +

WhipperBerry-White-Christmas-6

It’s no secret that I love to decorate for Christmas… Most of us do typically.

I start dreaming up my Christmas decor around September and it’s always grand with all kinds of fun elements that typically aren’t possible in nature or would require some home modification. Then I whittle my crazy ideas down a bit and come up with a more feasible plan and typically my Husband will say, “You can’t do that, it would put too many holes in the wall!”

Anyone with me on that?

What is it with men and nail holes in walls?

In years past that would mean that one of us would win… Either I would get to place nails to my hearts content to create the scene that I had envisioned OR… My husband gets his way and I pout for a few days. Neither option wasn’t great in my mind.

That is until I discovered how to have a damage-free Holiday with the Command™ Products!!

How to create DAMAGE-FREE Holiday Decor

I LOVE these little gems!! They have saved my bacon AND my Christmas dreams on countless occasions.

I use them ALL THE TIME when I’m creating fun vignettes around the house. They really come in handy around the holidays. This year, I have been wanting to create a kind of simple Scandinavian feel for Christmas. Simple colors, simple decor.

WhipperBerry-White-Christmas-2

To me when I think of Scandinavian decor I think of red and white felt ball garlands and I wanted to create a fun little scene in my living room with some garlands. The problem was, the room I wanted to decorate doesn’t have a mantle or anything to hang the garlands from. I initially thought that I could place little nails on the wall and it would do the trick, BUT… I didn’t want to rock my husband’s world.

I turned to my favorite decorating tools, Command Hooks so that I could do a little damage-free holiday decorating …

WhipperBerry-White-Christmas-18

I even hung our stockings right on the wall and they look great!

I love that you can get Command Hooks that are CLEAR so they don’t distract from what you are trying to create.

Now here’s the deal… I wanted to create my scene with my chalkboard wall, this wall has chalk all over it. Normally that would be an issue with any type of adhesive. All I did was clean a little spot where I wanted to place the hooks with alcohol, place the hooks, wait for an hour and then hang my display.

WhipperBerry-White-Christmas-19

It’s that simple!

Here’s a little secret… I also used some Command Hooks to hide my cords from the tree and the lights.

WhipperBerry-White-Christmas-20

I used a couple of hooks on the underside of my buffet to tuck those cords away out of site. LOVE IT!!

WhipperBerry-White-Christmas-9

Want to know my extra special secret… I even hung my light fixture and wreath with a Command product but that’s a post for another day!

So… How are YOU going to have a damage-free holiday?

Copper Basket + Styled X3

I’m super excited for today’s post… I’ve teamed up with Stacy Risenmay NOT Just a Housewife for her Styled x3 series. I adore Stacy, she is one talented, hilarious, generous & genuine lady! Have you seen her new book, Natural Accents? (affiliate link) I bought one at the Pinners Conference this weekend and I LOVE it! She is so creative and her ideas are amazing, you should go grab it quick!

Each month Stacy selects a simple item that works well for home decor. She styles the product in her home and then sends two more of the same item to two other creative bloggers to see what they would do with the item.

This month she sent out a wire storage basket (affiliate link)…

91t5KJ1Gg5L._SL1500_To myself & to Amy from Her Tool Belt to use this in our decor somehow. I was kind of excited for this challenge. I’ve been to several Junk shows like Junkstock here in Nebraska and those vintage locker baskets (that this is a replica of) go for big bucks. They are so fun for using as home decor along with corralling small items as well. As far as I’m concerned they are also a blank canvas. You can paint them whatever color you want!

I decided that with all of the fun copper elements that are popping-up this season, I wanted to transform my wire storage basket into a copper basket. I used Krylon Premium Copper Brilliance Spray Paint  (affiliate link) to transform my basket…

It looks fantastic! I turned the copper basket on it’s side and added some books and some white bowls for my Fall display in my kitchen.

I love what it adds to the display. Now you need to run over to check out Stacy & Amy’s projects!

Old World Charm Christmas Tree

+ This Old World Charm Christmas Tree post is brought to you by Michaels +

Old-World-Christmas-Charm-Tree-from-WhipperBerry

A few years ago my family was lucky enough to spend the month of December in Germany and France. We fell in love with the way they celebrate Christmas in Europe. They keep it simple, natural and all about family. I was enchanted with all of the simple decor that our friends in Germany used to decorate their homes.

Every year when the kiddos and I bring out the Christmas decorations we’ve always felt a little let-down, it just didn’t have that magical old world feel. It has been my dream to bring that same feeling to our home here in Lincoln.  This year is the year! I have been working on all kinds of fun simple projects to bring that old world charm to our home for the holidays.

The very first project and the heart of the Holiday home is the Christmas Tree.

I started with the 7.5 ft Hartford Pine Christmas Tree from Michaels and then I found some fantastic natural wood elements that are perfect to create that rustic European look.

I added all kinds of texture with sprigs of berries and pine cones, perfect for that old world look. Michaels has these fun metal ornaments that you can decorate with all kinds of goodies. I wanted to keep the natural feel so I glued some wooden snowflakes in some and added some buffalo check ribbon to a few and it looked perfect.

I even drilled some holes in some candles from Michaels and fed some floral wire through the hole and wired them onto the tree to get that true old world feel. We won’t light them of course, they are just there for the effect.

I LOVE how this simple tree turned out. At the base of the tree I added a sign that I had painted to add a little pizzaz before the tree gets filled with presents.

So what’s your dream Christmas? Do you like old and rustic or are you all glitter and glam?
