Not too long ago I started a trend at my house…

We’ve all fallen in LOVE with the Overnight Cashew Milk Oatmeal and have become quite obsessed.

Overnight-Oats-with-Silk-Cashew-Milk-from-WhipperBerry-9

My daughter Hannah has become our designated oatmeal prep girl and each night she prepares our oatmeal for the morning. We LOVE it!

Recently we’ve been introduced to another overnight breakfast treat that we’ve equally fallen for…

 Dairy Free Chia Pudding!

Dairy-Free-Chia-Pudding-by-WhipperBerry-2

Doesn’t it just sound sinful to have pudding for breakfast? With this “pudding” you don’t have to worry! I love it for a light dessert as well.

Have you jumped on the Chia Seed band wagon? I kind love them. They are nature’s quirky little gems and I love quirky.  Paired with our favorite dairy-free Silk® Dairy Free Yogurt Alternative and Silk® Cashew Milk it’s the perfect dairy-free treat!

Have you discovered the new Silk® Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative?

It’s plant-powered nutrition that never tasted so good – or so smooth and creamy. Made from the goodness of plants instead of dairy, Silk Dairy-Free provides 6 grams of soy protein per serving, with no cholesterol.  It’s made with real fruit, without any artificial flavors or colors. And the taste? One delightful spoonful and you’ll be amazed.

Let me show you how I mix-up our Dairy Free Chia Pudding…

Banana Cream Pie with Granola Pie Crust

+ This Banana Cream Pie with Granola Pie Crust is brought to you by Nature Valley™ +

Nature-Valley-Granola-Pie-Crust-by-WhipperBerry

I have a husband who adores banana cream pie… Well he adores almost any kind of pie really, but he especially loves banana Cream Pie. I was thinking the other day, wouldn’t banana cream pie taste incredible with a granola crust?!

Think about it, it’s almost like a oatmeal type cookie with banana cream on top… Sounds kind of good huh?

I set about experimenting and sure enough, granola is a super delicious way to make pie crust. It’s just like your standard graham cracker crust, just with granola.

I decided to use my favorite kind of granola, Nature Valley™ Protein  Granola Honey Oats. It seemed like a good fit for banana cream pie. However, think on this… What about a chocolate cream pie with Nature Valley™ Protein Oats N’ Dark Chocolate or a chocolate peanut butter cream pie with Nature Valley™ Peanut Butter Granola as the crust. You’re starting to get it aren’t ya?

Here’s another thought… When you make pie crust out of Nature Valley™ Protein Granola, you get all of that added protein when you are eating your tasty pie. That’s kind of a win in my books!

Here’s how you make it…

Nature-Valley-Granola-Pie-Crust---WhipperBerry-1

Preheat the oven to 350˚.

I took one bag of Nature Valley™ Protein Oats N’ Honey and one stick of melted butter. Put the granola into  a food processor or blender and turn your granola into almost like a granola flour. Pour in the melted butter to soften up the granola and help it stick together. Pour the mixture into your pie plate.

Nature-Valley-Granola-Pie-Crust---WhipperBerry-2

Using the bottom of a measuring cup, gently press the mixture into a crust form.

Nature-Valley-Granola-Pie-Crust---WhipperBerry-3

Place the crust in the oven at 350˚ for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool. In the meantime, mix up your filling.

I used a Jell-O Banana Cream Pie pudding mix, along with bananas and some heavy whipping cream for the filling part of my pie. Mix pudding according to package directions and place in refrigerator to fully set. Slice bananas into the bottom of the cooled crust and then pour pudding mixture on top.

Mix up some fresh homemade whipped cream using this recipe for Chantilly whipped cream, it’s lovely.

Place your whipped cream into a large pastry bag with a large star tip and place little whipped cream stars all over the top of your pie…

Nature-Valley-Granola-Pie-Crust---WhipperBerry-5

This is super simple, yet totally stunning!

The crust just turns into something truly scrumptious. You should give it a try.

What kind of pie would you make with a granola crust?

Affordable Style with Sauder Woodworking CO

+ This Affordable Style post brought to you by Sauder Woodworking Co. +

Sauder-Writing-Desk-11

From a very early age, I’ve been in love with design. Even as a little girl, I loved to flip through design magazines and look at beautiful homes. I especially LOVED being invited into a home that was well thought out and beautiful. You know the feeling… There are just some homes that take your breath away. The homeowner has taken the time to really curate a beautiful space.

You would think that in order to have a well designed and decorated home it would take a design budget large enough to feed a small third-world country for a day. It just isn’t so… It may seem like it, but I promise it’s not. I have been in multi-million dollar homes and in small 900 square foot apartments that just ooze great style. It truly doesn’t matter, you CAN create a beautiful, thoughtful space on any budget.

The key… just like with a great wardrobe, you want to have some solid, classic base pieces. For example, you always want to have a great basic black dress, classic white shirt and stylish slacks in your closet.  They are your basic pieces that are well made, they are always in style and they can be dressed-up or down with current trendy accessories.

The same goes for your home. No matter what your budget, you want to find your basic black dress in furniture form. Classic pieces that fit your taste that will last through the trends. You can dress them up with current colors or accessories that change each season. But all-in-all they are beautiful and timeless.

Think that is out of your reach? Think again…

Even with a small budget, you can find timeless pieces that can create a beautiful, thoughtful home. For example, This beautiful writing desk from Sauder Woodworking CO…

Sauder-Writing-Desk-5

This Carson Forge Writing Desk from Sauder is the perfect example of your basic black dress when it comes to home furnishings.  It has a timeless elegance about it and dresses-up easily to create a stunning corner of your home. It’s made by  Sauder Woodworking CO, a company that has been building furniture for 80 years. They have a solid track record of creating stylish AND affordable home furnishings for even the smallest budget. Sauder goes hand-in-hand with affordable style.

They have a commitment to manufacture as much of their product here in the United States as they can, in a most Earth-friendly way as possible…  All very admirable qualities in a company these days.

The best part about this piece… The price! It’s only $204.99. What a great and affordable way to add some style without breaking the bank!

Sauder-Writing-Desk-10

The desk is nice and compact, but finished on every side so it’s easy to add to any room. It has a pencil drawer and a slide-out hinged laptop or keyboard shelf.

Sauder-Writing-Desk-8

I paired mine with a vintage typewriter chair that I found here in Lincoln from Nodding Goat Home at Simply Bungalow,  some fun pendant lights from Antique Farmhouse and the Be Awesome Today sign is from Barn Owl Primitives.

BUT that’s how I would style it. Want to see some other bloggers who have joined me in a design challenge with this very same piece? Visit Sauder’s Put Together Lookbook…

+ This Roasted Cauliflower Bacon Mac and Cheese Recipe brought to you by Horizon® Organic Macaroni and Cheese +

I don’t know about you, but this time of year just calls for GREAT Macaroni and Cheese! There is just something amazing about nice pot of mac & cheese when it’s cold outside… Pure American comfort food.

Over the years I have played around with all kinds of additions to my mac & cheese… You know that mac & cheese is basically a blank canvas that is dying to be dressed-up a bit.

I’ve added everything from ham, bacon, sausage, hot dogs, peas, broccoli, garlic, onions, the list goes on and on. The folks at Horizon® Organic Mac & Cheese have put together a great Mac & Cheese Pinterest Board… It’s a board that helps you discover all kinds of scrumptious mac & cheese recipes.

One that my family has fallen head-over-heels for is Roasted Cauliflower Bacon Mac and Cheese.

Roasted-cauliflower-and-bacon-mac-and-cheese

Have you every tried roasted cauliflower? It’s like CANDY! Well, it’s not sweet like candy, but my family devours it like it was laced with sugar. I have to roast two heads of cauliflower at a time, one for my recipe and the other for the family to snack on like popcorn.

I decided to throw some roasted cauliflower along with bacon and caramelized onion into our Horizon® Pasta Shells & White Cheddar pot. The family loved it, even my little guy who is NOT a veggie lover ate it with gusto.

It’s super simple to make, here is what you’ll need…

Roasted Cauliflower Bacon Mac and Cheese Recipe

This recipe will easily feed a family of six.

1 head of Cauliflower

salt & pepper

1 1/2 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 lb thick cut bacon

1 large sweet Vidalia Onion

7 tablespoons butter (1 tablespoon to caramelize the onion and the remaining for the pasta)

3 boxes of Horizon® Pasta Shells & White Cheddar Cheese

3/4 cup milk

1/4 teaspoon dry mustard

Directions

Pre-heat oven to 400˚

Clean & cut cauliflower into bite size pieces. Place on a baking sheet and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and season with salt & pepper. Place in a 400˚ oven for 20 minutes or until they start to lightly brown on the edges.

roasted-cauliflower

I like to make roast mine in my cast iron skillet.

Next, cut bacon into small pieces and render the fat while browning the bacon.

Remove bacon from pan once fully cooked, place on a paper towel.

bacon

Remove bacon fat from pan as well. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to the same pan and add sliced onions.

onion

The onions will become coated with the butter and bacon bits. Slowly cook over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. No need to add salt & pepper. The onions will be seasoned by the bacon left over in the pan.

In a large pot, prepare your Horizon® Pasta Shells & White Cheddar Cheese according to package directions. When you are adding the butter and milk, also add 1/4 teaspoon of dry mustard.

Add your Cauliflower, bacon and onions. Mix well and serve immediately… Your family will thank you!
