{Table} Black, Silver & a little BLING

A couple of weeks ago, Michelle from Maddycakes Muse contacted me about creating a dessert table for her sister’s 60th birthday here in Vegas. First of all…Michelle is an AMAZING party planner based out of Glendale, Arizona, and needless to say I was rather intimidated. She was bringing her sister out here, along with a few family members, to celebrate, and she wanted to have a special dessert table for the big day. Being from out of town, she didn’t have the recourses to pull one together. So…she turned to her blog friends and we came to the rescue!!

Katie Nelson of Sweet Street Cakes made this incredible cake that topped off the table.

Emily helped with the graphic elements on the table and Whitney made the super cute cookie favors.

It was sooo much fun being a part of Jackie’s special night! Thanks, Michelle, for letting us take part!!

{Blog Love} Jim’s Pancakes

In the world of culinary artists there are many different mediums. Cakes and pastries (as well as other desserts) seem to be my favorite things to focus on. But then I find this guy: just an ordinary dad who wants to make cool pancakes for his daughter. How cool is that? And look what he can do!

Yes, that’s a pancake! Jim, from Jim’s Pancakes, is a culinary artist if ever I saw one.

{Tutorial} Chalkboard Menu

Sooooo much better!! Below you will find the original tutorial on how to make a chalkboard menu for your family.

The other day I was reading Jen’s post from Tatertots & Jell-o about her lovely Chalkboard Chargers and it got me thinking.

I have a beautiful black armoire in my kitchen that was screaming for some chalkboard treatment.

Can’t you just see it? A lovely menu board on the side! So I got to work. First I washed the side to prep it for the paint. I then taped off the section that was going to be my work space.

Now we are ready to paint!

I used Rust-Oleum black chalkboard paint, and a small smooth surface roller. I painted three coats and let it cure for three days.

On the third day I cut vinyl lettering on my Cricut, (I used the Doodletype cartridge) and applied it to the surface before I seasoned the chalkboard.

Next, and very important, you must season your new chalkboard. To do that, all you need to do is take a piece of chalk, lay it on it’s side, and gently color the entire surface of the board.

Erase the chalk and voila, your new chalkboard is ready to use.
