How to Paint Stripes for a Pop of Color

0 · Apr 16, 2013 · Leave a Comment

How to paint stripes // Sometimes a project just isn't complete with a little pop of color to really make it stand out. Sometimes all that project needs are a few little stripes to make that project pop. I've added a few stripes to my letter T, in my Vinyl Chalkboard Inspiration Wall…

Last week, I showed off my Vinyl Chalkboard Inspiration Wall that I created for my kitchen wall…

WhipperBerry's Chalkboard Inspiration Wall

The lion share of the project is finished, but I'm still planning on adding a few more design elements to give it a little color pop. I was inspired by a recent trip to Anthropologie and thought it would be fun to add an Anthro vibe to the whole project. I started with my letter T. First, I selected my colors for the project…

Primary Blue, Canyon Orange & Marigold via the Americana paint line from DecoArt. The Americana line is a fabulous all-purpose paint that worked well for my metal letter. I used some washi tape to create some random stripes on the bottom corner of the T…

Using a small sponge brush I painted the stripes…

And finished up with these fun, not too perfect, stripes at the bottom of the letter T… Its a good start to my Anthro color pop additions for the inspiration wall. I have a few more graphic elements that I'm going to add and then the wall will be finished!

Gold Accented Bowl Refashion // Project ReLove

2 · Apr 13, 2013 · 1 Comment

Gold Accented Bowl Refashion // We all have them… Little spots in our garages and basements with little odds and ends that used to be treasures, but have since lost their flair. Whether they are old and out of date, or just need a little sprucing up… These goodies still have a place!! When my friends at Michaels craft stores contacted me about Project ReLove I easily jumped onboard. Project ReLove is in honor of Earth Day and a fabulous movement to inspire all of us to create something new, out of something we already have. No need to run out and find new supplies, just go shopping in your lost treasures. You'll be amazed what a little paint, glue, Mod Podge or a little bling can do for an tired old treasure.

I went shopping in my garage and found an old wood bowl that I bought a while ago and thought I could breath new life into with a little gold paint.

Gold Accented Bowl

The other day I was shopping at Target and found this amazing gold accented bowl in the Nate Berkas collection…

14316920_130119055414I knew with a little gold spray paint from Krylon I could transform my old wood bowl into somthing like Nate's creation. All I needed was the spray paint, some painters tape and some plastic wrap and I was in business…

I taped off the sections that I didn't want to paint. Make sure you watch your lines to make sure that's the way you want your final piece to look. Sometimes you need to tape in small sections in order to achieve the desired look. I then carefully painted the bowl with slow even movements to create a smooth unblemished surface. Two coats of paint was perfect…

Mask the part of the bowl you don't want to paint with painters tape

Once the paint dried, I removed the tape, the plastic wrap and voila, I now have a perfect new accent piece for a new display I'm working on. I just LOVE it!!

So, what do you have that you can repurpose or refashion? What's living in the deep dark corners of your garage that can become something fabulous again? You can join Michaels for Project ReLove too!

Friday Flair Link Party // Spring Wreath Edition

0 · Apr 12, 2013 · 27 Comments

Friday Flair Link Party // Welcome to the weekend friends… It's FRIDAY!! This week I've been trying to recover from last weekend's Whatever Craft Weekend and prepare for SNAP next week. Jamielyn from I Heart Nap Time and I are teaching a class on Pinterest, so if you have any questions that you've been dying to ask, leave a comment and I will see if we can address it for you either in our class or I will post about it later for you guys who can't make it.

I've been obsessed with color this week. Finding new ways to add color and vibrance into our home. I learned last weekend at Meg's house that color really does make one happy.  I, for one could use more color in my life! One way to add a pop of color is by creating a fun colorful wreath to your entry. I just adore this one from Positively Splendid…

Amy does a fabulous job on all of her amazing projects. You should check out some of her other wreaths, they are amazing!!

Whatever Craft Weekend // Part One

Whatever Craft Weekend // Yea, I won the lottery, well I didn’t per say… Kristi from Barn Owl Primitives did, and she was kind enough to share her winnings! What did we win? A weekend at Meg’s Whatever Craft Weekend!!

What is the Whatever Craft Weekend. Several of you have asked over Instagram. Meg from the blog Whatever, has a house, a magical house that she opens up a few weekends throughout the year for a fabulous craft weekend. Her partner in this endeavor is Kimberlee and together these ladies pull off one of the best girls weekends I’ve ever had. They pampered us (we couldn’t even clear our dishes from the table), they made us laugh and most of all they inspired us! This Whatever Craft Weekend has become so popular in some circles that you have to add your name to the waiting list and then all of the participants are selected by a lottery sysytem. People have been on the list for over a year waiting for a spot. That’s why I feel like one of the luckiest girls out there!!

When we first arrive at the house you’re greeted with a smile and shown your room, and the minutes you walk in you are transported back to when you were a kid and life was just simple and magical…

My roommates for the weekend were…

Mique from 30 Handmade Days and the Queen Bee Market, Kristi from Barn Owl Primitives and Ashley from Little Miss Momma. These girls are amazing and I am truly blessed to be able to call them friends. Once we were settled, threw on our comfy outfits and Kimberlee treated us to her wonderful dinner, we got to work in the studio on our Whatever Craft Weekend Aprons…

making the whatever apron

These aprons are iconic and so fun to make. Meg has an amazing collection of fabric and goodies to use for all of the projects. Just take a look at one of the supply stations…

I wouldn’t say that I have amazing sewing prowess and this project made me feel like a sewing ROCK STAR!! That’s the magic of Meg’s creation.

If you can sew a straight line you can make this project. It was so fun to see everyone’s personalities come out in their fabric selection. Here are all of our aprons…

Everywhere you turn, you are treated with amazing eye candy. Color, textures and patterns are all over the place. The house is just so happy. The whole weekend truly inspired my passion for making things and in so many ways. For one, I realized I need more color in my life. Like I’ve said before, I think this year is going to be operation add color to my life. We all need color!!

Tomorrow, I’ll share a bit more about our adventures and some of the amazing swag we received.
