Let your Light so Shine Before Men Scripture

23 · Oct 5, 2015 · 3 Comments

I have always been intrigued with this scripture Let your Light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”. I created a free printable that you can download at the end of this article. It will help you Ponderize.

Here is the full scripture

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

What does the scripture “Let Your Light so Shine Before Men” mean?

This is something that we were pondering in the past few weeks. Sometimes with the language of religious books, it can be hard to understand. It can take a while to just sit and think about even just one sentence to fully understand it. This is why we accepted the challenge to Ponderize…

Our family has accepted the Ponderize challenge from our Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint’s Annual General Conference yesterday (October 2019) from Devin G. Durrant.  What does it mean to PONDERIZE?

To Ponderize is 80% extended pondering and 20% memorization of our scriptures.

It’s not just memorizing. It’s taking time to think about what the Lord would have us learn from the verse. It’s not hard, and even the kiddos can do it. Tonight for Family Home Evening our family is going to work on our verse for this week, Matthew 5:16… “Let your Light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Let your light shine 8.5x11

Let Your Light So Shine Before Men, That They May See Your Good Works, and Glorify Your Father Which is in Heaven

So what is Matthew 5:16 KJV really saying? I think it’s really just about doing good and leading by example. It’s about doing things through the power of God. Often times it seems that folks just overthinking things but I prefer to keep it simple. The interpretation of this verse is up to you to decide. There are so many good deeds done in the world today but they get swept under the rug by all of the negativity that’s spread. Let’s try to do more and shine our light!

You can join us!!

It doesn’t matter what religion you are,  let’s bring a little light into this world. Print the verse each week and take time to ponder about it’s meaning and then commit it to memory.

You can download the PONDERIZE printable HERE

I have created a large 8 1/2 x 11 graphic along with a 4×6 graphic that you can print and place in strategic places around your home. Hopefully, we can grow closer to our Heavenly Father, closer to our families, and to our communities by PONDERIZING the scriptures! Maybe this is just me trying to do my part by trying to let my light shine before men? Who knows but I really enjoy sharing.

I’ve been thinking more about philosophy lately and recently wrote a post called biocentrism debunked that you may find interesting.

Rosie the Riveter Costume

27 · Oct 1, 2015 · 6 Comments

+ This Rosie the Riveter Costume Post brought to you my Michaels Craft Stores +

Rosie-the-Riveter-Costume-from-WhipperBerry-2

You guys, I’m so excited… Halloween is right around the corner!!

I have a love/hate relationship with Halloween. I’m not a fan of the macabre scene, full of blood and gore, but I do love all of the fun creative ways to dress-up for the holiday. I love coming up with fun ideas for costumes with the family. I like to keep things simple, I don’t want to spend a ton of time or money on costumes for sure.

This months Michaels Maker’s Challenge was to create a simple DIY Halloween Costume.

_01190_MAKERS_0929_l

My daughter and I thought it would be fun to put together a quick costume with the iconic Rosie the Riveter as our muse. I have always LOVED this graphic.

Rosie the Riveter Costume Materials

Here’s what you will need to make this simple costume.

Supplies-for-Rosie-the-Riviter-Costume

  • Elmer’s foam core board
  • Red and white polka dot fabric – available in store at Michaels, not online
  • Blue vinyl
  • 1 1/2 inch navy ribbon
  • Utility knife
  • Silhouette CAMEO – Not a deal breaker, but nice.
  • Blue button down shirt

Instructions

This is one of those costumes that really takes minutes if you have a Silhouette cutting machine. If not, NO WORRIES. It will take a little bit longer but you can still do it. With the silhouette all you need is to download this file that I created, and you can cut the image out of vinyl for your poster.

We-Can-Do-It-Poster-for-Silhouette-CAMEO-or-Portrait

The poster board is 20×30 and this will fit perfect to the top of the board.

We-Can-Do-It-poster

You will need to weed your vinyl, than place some transfer tape on top of it. I used the transfer tape to hinge the top of the vinyl transfer to the top of the board. Then I pulled the backing off the vinyl and with the hinge, laid the vinyl down right in the perfect spot.

Now, hindsight being 20/20… I would have either laid down some white vinyl or spray painted the top of the board white first. That would make the letters white, but I’m not too worried about that.

Next, I used a utility knife to cut some slits into the board right where I wanted to place the ribbon to create a kind of backpack effect. That way she could wear the board on her back with ease. I used navy ribbon so that it would blend in with the shirt and just tied it in cute bows on the back of the board.

It works perfect! Now all you have to do it tie-up your hair with the red & white polka dot fabric and you’re all set!!

Cinnamon Praline Sauce Recipe

Cinnamon-Praline-Sauce-from-WhipperBerry

Not too long ago, my husband and I were celebrating my birthday at Famous Dave’s restaurant here in Lincoln and we were introduced to the most amazing concoction! Part of their birthday deal there is you receive a free Sundae of your choice… Hot Fudge or Praline. I decided on Praline and it was the most heavenly experience. My husband and I were blown away by this scrumptious sauce. Bite after bite, we tried to deconstruct it to figure out the magic. It wasn’t your typical praline sauce, it had nice hint of cinnamon with a beautiful tang that paired amazingly well with the vanilla ice cream. I decided I needed to come home and figure out how to make this lovely sauce.

It’s really quite simple, It’s basically buttered pecans mixed with a lovely caramel sauce with a surprise addition at the end. Make sure you use quality ingredients like J.R. Watkins Vanilla and Cinnamon to ensure a top quality sauce.  I put together a quick video on how to make this amazing Cinnamon Praline Sauce. After the video I have a full recipe that you can print.

It’s really just that easy! We love this sauce on vanilla ice cream, bread pudding, waffles, pancakes… I could go on and on. I’m actually thinking of making up a bunch and bottling it for Holiday gifts this year. Forget cookies, this sauce is the ticket to Holiday bliss!

This sauce is a perfect addition to all kinds of desserts and breakfast items. Make-up a batch and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Author: Heather // WhipperBerry
Recipe type: Dessert
Serves: 15
Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
Instructions
  1. In a heavy bottomed sauce pan add ½ cup of butter and melt over medium heat.
  2. Add pecans and bring to a simmer. Simmer the pecans in the butter for 3-4 minutes or until the nuts start to brown. Keep a close eye on them, they will burn quickly if left unattended.
  3. Once they are sufficiently browned remove the pan from the heat. Cut butter into pats and add to the buttered pecan mixture to cool it down.
  4. Let mixture cool while making the caramel.
  5. Again, in a heavy bottomed sauce pan over low heat add brown sugar, cinnamon and cream. Stir to combine and slowly raise the heat to medium.
  6. Stir constantly.
  7. Using a candy thermometer, bring mixture up to 230˚ then remove from heat.
  8. Add vanilla, salt, sour cream and buttered pecan mixture and mix well.
  9. Serve warm over vanilla ice cream, bread pudding, waffles, pancakes or other desserts.
