A New Summer Adventure… Finding My Skinny Cow WoCavé

0 · Jul 14, 2013 · Leave a Comment

This post brought to you by Skinny Cow // How often do you have a chance to step out of your comfort zone? I mean really get out of your routine and stretch yourself?

Think about it… We as women have so much on our minds, on our to-do list, responsibilities (whether we want them or not.) We dive into our daily routines; family, work, school, church, giving back to our communities. Making sure our loved ones have the best that we can give them and at the end of the day… what have we done to stretch ourselves, to think beyond peanut butter and jelly and do something that scares us and in the same time, invigorates our soul and helps us find our joy. What have we done that refills our tanks so that we can get up the next day and start our routine all over again.

I'm super excited, the folks over at Skinny Cow have challenged me to find my WoCavé.

home-introducing-wocave

What is a WoCavé you ask? Well first, it's pronounced wo-cah-vay and it's what ever you want it to be. If you are lucky enough to have a space in our house where the pink is plush, the men are scarce and the Skinny Cow treats flow freely, that may be your WoCavé. Your WoCavé may be a fun night out with your best girl friends to your favorite restaurant. It may be a quiet place where you can escape and refuel your soul by reading your favorite book. Your WoCavé may take you to the tallest mountain, challenging your physical self or on a stage overcoming a lifelong fear. You get to decide what your WoCavé is.

Your WoCavé is what ever helps you find your true self, it's what helps you fill your tanks so that you are ready to make life magical for your loved ones and tackle the challenges of the day.

Skinny Cow has set-up three challenges for me in the next two months to help me find my WoCavé and I'm super excited to see what they have in store. The other day I received this box with my first challenge inside…

Skinny Cow WoCavé

You'll have to wait and see what it is, but I will give you a little hint… It's something totally out of my comfort zone. An activity that I would have never even thought of doing because I felt I lacked the talent. It was scary and silly at the same time. I was able to take some friends and we had a BLAST!! And yes… Skinny Cow was had by all. Come back on Tuesday and you'll see the fun activity that helped me totally find a part of my WoCavé that I didn't even know existed!

In the mean time… Skinny Cow is hosting a fun WoCavé Challenge for you as well.

You can head over to Polyvore and design your dream WoCavé for a chance to win $7,500… Um, yes please! For all the details on how to enter, you can  visit the WoCavé site and start creating your special place! Come back on Tuesday… for all the juicy details on my first challenge!

Friday Flair Link Party // Features no. 4

0 · Jul 12, 2013 · 25 Comments

Friday Flair Link Party // Welcome to the weekend… It's finally FRIDAY!! The temperatures are heading up and we've been busy trying to stay cool. We had a full week with all kinds of fun projects and new adventures that you'll get to hear more about next week.

Hales a.k.a Lil'Whip got her drivers permit this week, and I am now officially a crazy, nervous wreck! I don't know how parents have done this before. I know people do. My parents did… But how is this really going to work. I feel like the minute she walked out of that DMV with that permit in hand, I was officially sending her out to the wolves. I'll get over this, we all do… hopefully. You know those commercials where the little 4 year old is sitting in the car with the father giving her instructions on how to drive… Yea, that's how I feel.

On that note, how about some fun from last week's Friday Flair?  We had all kinds of fun goodies that I can't wait to share…

Hanging Succulent Garden with International Delight

7 · Jul 10, 2013 · 28 Comments

This post brought to you by International Delight // I have to admit… I love my sweet drinks. There is nothing better than starting the day with a cup of iced Choffy or my favorite herbal tea with a splash of  International Delight creamer. Currently MY ID is the Cold Stone Sweet Cream… YUM!!!  Or, if I’m in a bolder mood, the Caramel Macchiato.

With this being part of my morning routine, I tend to go through a bit of creamer and therefore, I have quite a few bottles that are destined for the trash.  Recently, International Delight issued a challenge… Make something out of my used bottles. I really thought that was kind of a fun idea. Well… to be completely honest, I was a little befuddled. Using old containers as a craft muse hasn’t really been part of my M.O. when it comes to creating for WhipperBerry.  I had to step back and think for a bit and then inspiration hit! I could make a hanging succulent garden with a few of the ID bottles and it would look fantastic.

I can’t even tell you how tickled I was when I finished this project. Not only that but I came up with a few more that I may try. I mean seriously, what can you really do with an old plastic bottle? Who knew that it could be the perfect vehicle for such a fun idea. It’s so simple, here is how you can make a hanging succulent garden of your very own…

transform your International Delights Creamer container into a hanging succulent garden

I used the large International Delight Bottle, removed the label and the lid and cut the top portion off with a craft knife.

Use a craft knife to create your garden container

Next, I cut openings into the side of the bottle as a fun way to add more succulents into my little garden container.

Dress-up your succulent container with DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint

I used DecoArt Americana acrylic craft paint to add color to the plant containers. I used Sea Glass, and Sizzling Pink from the Neon Collection. The design was a little free form. I added some little stripes and some splashes of color on each container leaving some open areas to add more contrast.

Then, I added some small succulents that I found at Lowes with some pea gravel and soil designed for succulents. I even layered the soil and pea gravel to add a fun effect in the container that you see above, on the right. Once you have everything painted and planted then you have to decide… Will you leave them as is… or hang them?

I think they look great either way, and they add a fun pop of color to any room. Here is how they would look dressing up a table…

… Or, you can carefully poke some holes in the side and add some black and gold twine from Knot & Bow and hang them for a totally different look.

Isn’t it FUN?!

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Recipe

6 · Jul 9, 2013 · 7 Comments

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Recipe // It is great to be back here at Whipperberry! Let’s talk about one of my favorite summer treats… Ice cream! It gets pretty warm here in Utah. As the temperatures rise, my mind gets busy trying to think of fun and new flavors of ice cream to make. I always end up back at the old standby of chocolate chip. This time I wanted to get a little crazy and add a little somthin’ extra!

mint_ice_cream

Now, you might be surprised to learn that I DO NOT own an ice cream maker! *GASP!* So how is it that I made this amazingly fluffy and delicious looking treat? Easy! I combined two basic ingredients, added in my mixers and froze away. You can see the tutorial for the basic two ingredient ice cream here.

mint_chocolate_chip

Here is what you will need: 2 cups of heavy whipping cream 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk 1 cup chocolate chunks 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Now, let’s get started! In a small bowl mix together the condensed milk, chocolate chunks, and extracts. Set aside. Whisk your heavy cream in the bowl of an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Gently fold your whipped cream into your condensed milk mixture. Pour this into an airtight container and transfer to your freezer. Allow to freeze 6 hours, or overnight.

I like to chop my chocolate chunks a bit to make them a little smaller, but that’s just personal preference.

mint

The best thing about this recipe is how adaptable it is! Don’t like mint or chocolate chips? No problem! Switch them out for cherries or cheesecake. Or stick with plain ol’ vanilla. The possibilities are endless! Hop over to my site and check out a few of the fun flavors I’ve made!

Fabric Wrapped Mason Jar Vases

5 · Jul 8, 2013 · 4 Comments

This fabric wrapped mason jar vases post, brought to you by Michaels Craft Stores // How many times have you been shopping in Michaels Crafts and gathered up everything thing that you need for a project and then sent up this wish to the craft fairy… "I wish Michaels had FABRIC!" I know I have about a MILLION times. To have such a lovely craft store without fabric was just sooooo sad. Well, my 1,000,001 wish was granted! Michaels now has a simple fabric section!! They have a fun selections of several types of fabric from your basic cotton all the way up to your fancy burlap…

Michaels New Fabric Section

Each fabric comes in different lengths from 18 inches up to 2 Yards and has a comparable price point to other fabric stores. This is perfect for simple projects like my fabric wrapped Mason jars, or even a stunning cotton quilt, depending on your skill level. Michaels sent me some fabric to try out and I fell in love with the canvas key print fabric…

Michaels Fabric

Aren't those keys just divine? The feel and the weight of the fabric is just perfect as well. I have to say, Michaels didn't compromise on quality at all. I used this fabric to wrap a Mason jar that I was using as a vase for a table center piece. It's so simple, I'm almost embarrassed to share…

wrap your jar with Michaels fabric for a fun designer look

Fabric Wrapped Mason Jar Vases Supply List

  • Mason Jar
  • Michaels canvas – key print
  • Divine Twine – red
  • Scissors

Instructions

Take your fabric and measure how wide you need your fabric strip to be. Mine is about 3 inches, but it will be different based on what jar you select. Make a little snip one inch in from the edge of the fabric, and rip the fabric all the way down. This will give you a rough edge on both sides of your strip. Then measure in three inches (or whatever your measurement will be) make another snip and rip all the way down again. You will then have a lovely fabric strip with rough edges on both sides.

Next, wrap it around your jar and measure how much fabric you will need to wrap the jar completely and then trim the excess fabric. With this canvas I was pleasantly surprised at how I didn't need anything other than the twine to secure the fabric. The fabric has kind of a velcro type quality, so I wrapped the jar and then just secured the fabric with some Divine Twine and that was it! No hot glue or glue of any type needed at all.

Just rip your fabric to get a lovely rough edge

This is a great way to dress up any table from a simple dinner to a large scale event like a wedding or such. The best part… you can get all the fabric you need at Michaels… YAY!!

What else would you make with some of this fun fabric from one of our favorite craft stores?
